Sembodai Rukmani Varatharajan Engineering College (SRVEC) was started in the year 2009, it is an affiliated college situated at Nagapattinam, Tamilnadu. Spread across a 300 acre campus SRVEC is recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The institute has a total of 9 engineering programmes that are available across 2 types of degrees – undergraduate and postgraduate. SRVEC currently has 303 enrolled students and 54 total faculty members hence it has a reasonable student to faculty ration that guarantees education quality and individual attention.

Sembodai Rukmani Varatharajan Engineering College comprises various beautiful contemporary amenities for the overall success and development of the learners. The 1000 sq. ft. library includes an access of the 12,000 plus publications in science and engineering disciplines. It’s very computerised and has enough study area for students. SRVEC has established computer literacy by having approximately one thousand computers connected to central servers and wireless networks for dissemination across the entire learning institution. The college also has well equipped laboratory facilities for practical in various engineers branches.

In total, SRVEC delivers 9 courses where 5 are BE courses and 4 are ME courses. Each programme is a full-time programme , programme BE are four years and programme ME are two years. The total student enrolment in all courses is 303. The college has specialisation in civil engineering, BE computer science and engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, BE electronics and communication engineering, mechanical engineering, CAD CAM, structural engineering and VLSI design.

The admission process at SRVEC differs for different courses and has been organised in a very simple manner. There are no specifics regarding the entrance examinations; however, the college may use academic performance in 10+2 or equivalent for undergraduate admission and the score obtained in the bachelor’s degree for postgraduate admission. SRVEC believes in offering the students a comprehensive education. The college has separate hostels for boys and girls to provide a track of living comfortable to the out station students. The boys’ hostel with three storey has the capacity to accommodate students in 80 rooms whiles the girls’ hostel with two storey accommodate students in 60 rooms. Facilities available and observable in these both hostels include – TV halls, reading sections and Computer with internet access. Another area of importance in the college is sports and games, and the college has made available sporting facilities for both indoor and outdoor many of which include gymnasiums.

In order to facilitate students’ training and placements, SRVEC has a separate Training and Placement Cell. This cell is designed to build core competencies needed in today’s variable world of work including interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills. The college tries to maintain dynamism in its competency level and its desire is to offer students who are ready to face organisational realities of the real job markets.
