SHPT School of Library Science, Mumbai: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

SHPT School of Library Science is one of the oldest institutions in Mumbai, and was founded in 1961 for the development of the Library Sciences. This is a coeducational institution situated at 1, Nathibai Thackersey Road in Mumbai, and affiliated to S.N.D.T. Women’s University. Therefore, at SHPT School of Library Science students are relatively few with a total enrollment of 27 students and faculty ratio of 4. The institute offers 4 professional courses at the bachelors and masters degrees, postgraduate diploma, and doctoral degree levels for producing qualified human resource for library science. 

In addition to that, the institute is equipped with various facilities that are expected to facilitate learning of students. In the center of these amenities is the large library that provides students with the privileges of the SNDT Women’s University Library. It has an excellent collection of books, journals, reports as well as theses. In addition, the group make available the Emerald Library Science Collection through INFLIBNET, ProQuest theses and dissertations, and other specific databases, LISA and LISTA. Limited hostel accommodation is available for students with disabilities, and for male and female students from other parts of Mumbai. If you are interested in a campus with some advanced facilities it has an auditorium, health centre, first aid and canteen services, banks with ATM machine services all round the campus. 

SHPT School of Library Science has a comprehensive program with one course per academic year intended for students at different years of study. These programs include the B.Lib.I.Sc (Bachelor of Library and Information Science) a one-year program; the M.Lib.I.Sc Integrated (Master of Library and Information Science), a two-year course; the PGD Library Science (Postgraduate Diploma in Library Science), a one-year program; and the Ph.D. in Library and Information Science, a six-year research oriented program. Though the total of approved intake for these programs is 27, there is no subsequent distribution per course. 

The admission requirements in SHPT School of Library Science for the different programs are in a dichotomy. For the M.Lib.I.Sc Integrated program, it is directly offered from the candidate own qualification and work experience. For this reason, there is a written exam besides an interview, so only the most appropriate candidates would be chosen. In other programs where it has not been said that the mode of admission is outlined, procedures would as well be equally challenging admitting on merit and aptitude for library science.
