About Sree Narayana Institute of Ayurvedic Studies and Research, Kollam

Sree Narayana Institute of Ayurvedic Studies & Research, situated in Kollam, Kerala, is one of the reputed Ayurvedic educational and research centres. This is a co-educational institute founded in 2004 in Kerala to help nurture the potential Ayurvedic practitioners for almost two decades. Situated in a vast area of 32 acres of land, the institute imparts number of Ayurvedic courses to 376 students. The institute has a pool of 35 highly skilled and well qualified faculty members who are always ready to devote time and energy to every student enrolled in the programme in order to uphold the favourable student-teacher ratio. To make sure that the quality of education in Ayurvedic is not compromised, the institute is recognised by the Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCIM).

Sree Narayana Institute of Ayurvedic Studies and Research has equipped a number of facilities which is helpful in the learning process of the students. For the out-station students, there are separate hostels for boys and girls to ensure that the students stay comfortable. The college library is stock with around 10000 books from national and international publisher Ayurvedic section formal medical science section are available there. For the students and researchers, the information on Ayurveda is easy to get. The institute also available laboratories which are well equipped for various practical, separate auditorium for events/seminars, and hygienic canteen which provides healthy food. This five storey modernised building re-accommodates 7OPDs and a 160bedded IP facility that offers the students real life clinical experience.

Sree Narayana Institute of Ayurvedic Studies and Research offers 4 courses in Ayurvedic studies that will meet the current philosophies and educational needs of Ayurveda. The existing courses that are being pursued are the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS), MD in Kayachikitsa, MS in Salya Tantra and a Diploma in Panchakarma Masseur and Ayurvedic Nursing. The BAMS programme under which the first degree in Ayurveda is offered has an approved carry capacity of sixty students. Holders of the MD Kayachikitsa and MS Salya Tantra, admitting 5 students each admission, are postgraduate specialisation. These are all fully fledged courses ensuring professional training in the sphere of Ayurvedic system of medicine.

The admission process of the teaching institution of Sree Narayana Institute of Ayurvedic Studies and Research is aimed at identifying highly talented learners in its programmes. For the BAMS programme, candidates must qualify through the NEET-UG, a common medical entrance examination proven all over the country. The candidate seeking admission in MD Kayachikitsa and MS Salya Tantra must pass the All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance test or AIAPGET. The Diploma in Panchakarma Masseur and Ayurveda Nursing like other Diploma courses had a unique mode of admission. As per the policy updated by the Directorate of Ayurveda Medical Education (DAME) Kerala, 50% of the intake capacity is extra filled under direct allotment from DAME and the balance 50 percent of the intake is under management control. This takes care of a policy of having a balanced student population to avoid a situation where the school is flooded with talents from only one side of the reproductive system.

Admission to Sree Narayana Institute of Ayurvedic Studies and Research is mainly on the basis of national-level entrance exams. For under-graduate courses such as Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS), candidates have to pass through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). It is a single medical entrance test held all over the country and is the major basis for selection for the BAMS course.

For postgraduate degrees like MD Kayachikitsa and MS Salya Tantra, candidates need to clear the All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET). This test is specially conducted for those who are looking for admission to postgraduate Ayurvedic courses at the national level.

Application Process

Application to Sree Narayana Institute of Ayurvedic Studies and Research depends on the course:

For BAMS:

1. Clear NEET-UG examination.
2. Get registered through the centralized counseling procedure according to the state or national rules.
3. Provide all the documents as required, i.e., NEET score card, 10+2 mark sheets, and other certificates as mentioned.
4. Report for counseling if selected.
5. Complete admission procedure, including payment of fees, if a seat is allotted.

For MD Kayachikitsa and MS Salya Tantra:

1. Appear and pass in the AIAPGET.
2. Submit AIAPGET scores and other documents to the institute.
3. Appear for counseling or interview rounds as intimated by the institute.
4. Fill up admission formalities, document verification, and fee payment if shortlisted.

For Diploma in Panchakarma Masseur and Ayurveda Nursing:

1. Submit directly to the Directorate of Ayurveda Medical Education (DAME) Kerala for government quota seats.
2. For management quota, submit directly to the institute according to the schedule announced.
3. Get necessary documents submitted, such as educational certificates and other documents.
4. Proceed for counseling or selection process as intimated.
5. Formalities of admission if selected.

Degree wise Admission Process

BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery): The admission to the BAMS course is on the basis of the performance of the candidate in NEET-UG. The course offers a total intake of 60 seats. The candidates should have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects. The overall fee for the BAMS course is Rs 1,308,177.

MD Kayachikitsa For admission to the MD Kayachikitsa course, the candidates need to qualify in the AIAPGET. The course offers an intake of 5 seats. The applicants should have a BAMS degree from a recognized university.

MS Salya Tantra Like MD Kayachikitsa, AIAPGET score is the criteria for admission into MS Salya Tantra. The course has 5 seats as well. The course cost is Rs 1,824,320. The candidate must hold a degree in BAMS.

Diploma in Panchakarma Masseur and Ayurveda Nursing: Admission to this diploma course is different. According to the Directorate of Ayurveda Medical Education (DAME) Kerala policy, 50% of the seats are directly allotted by DAME and the other 50% are management seats. This provides a balanced student intake in the program.
