Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, (SMVMCH) a private Medical college is situated at Puducherry India. This college for both male and female students was founded in 2006, and has thus catapulted to the top list of college for medical studies. SMVMCH is one of the largest health sciences universities spread in 40 acres area with various under graduate and post graduate medical courses. The college is recognised from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and affiliated to National Medical Commission (NMC). Currently, SMVMCH has 914 students and a faculty of 136 therefore ensuring the students have every opportunity for academic success and research in this field.

The multiples facilities possessed by the college are common and adequate to meet the demand of the academic programs offered and the co-curricular activities of students. The central library is the repository of knowledge resources; as on 31/03/2012 it has medical stock of over 14730 books and current subscription of more than 250 journals. It also houses an e-library and is also functional for 16 hours out of the 24, therefore providing students and faculty with enough learning materials.

This college also encompasses a gym, auditorium and cafeteria for several purposes of the students. As it has already been established SMVMCH provide a broad spectrum of medical programs and within them comprises 21 programs taught at three degrees. The largest program of the college or the MBBS program has an approved intake capacity of 250 seats. It also has several postgraduate courses, among which are MD and MS in specialties such as Anaesthesia, Medicine , Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology as well as several others. All the courses are of full time hence a quality and strict medical education to the students is provided. On student enrollment basis, the college has a total student enrolment of 914 across several courses offered which underlines the college’s contribution to medical education in the region.

The admission process of SMVMCH depends on the entrance examination level at the national level. Similarly for MBBS course students are selected based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). NEET-PG examination is conducted for admitting students to the postgraduate MD and MS courses. These tests help the college to admit students through competency tests and in consonance with the standard education in medical colleges across the nation.
