The St. Michael’s College, Cherthala (SMC) is an independent co-educational college in Kerala which started its journey in the academic session of 1967–68. The college, situated at Mayithara P.O, Cherthala Alappuzha Kerala, is an affiliated college that is under the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. St. Joseph’s college is a large college of 21.7 acres and a centre for arts, humanities, social sciences, science, commerce & management offering a wide array of bachelors and masters programmes. NAAC has accredited this college and total enrolled students in this college are one thousand two hundred thirteen students and the ratio of male and female students are nearly equal: 548 male and 629 female students.

St Michaels College acting out as a benchmark sets itself modern amenities that facilitate learning to its students. Facilities available to support the students include proper stocked up teaching rooms, Hi-tech laboratories, and an educational library with stocked up books, magazines, and journals, and online databases. The college also offers a computerised centre with internet connection and other software. For the students’ physical health, SMC has provided wide facilities for playground, 400m track, and 12 stations multi gym under the supervision of the Department of Physical Education and Health Club.

There are 13 courses offered by this institution under 8 degree programmes and these are B.Sc (Physics, Chemistry and Zoology), B.A (Economics and English), B.Com ( Finance and Computer Applications), M.A. Economics, M.Sc (Polymer Chemistry), M.Com (Finance), etc. The college operates on a full time study mode for all its programmes. The student strength as of now is 1,213 and the faculty strength is 31 thus SMC has comparatively low student-faculty ratio so students will receive individual attention and quality education.

The admission processes practiced at this institution include pass mark scores achieved at the qualifying examinations. Application for various courses in the college is done online and the college provides counselling to all the eligible candidates. SMC provides various scholarships to deserving students and indigent students as well.
