St Xavier's College for Women, Aluva: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

St. Xavier’s College for Women is an autonomous European college located in Aluva town of Kerala which was established in 1964. Standing under Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, the college stands proud with a NAAC A++ accreditation mark to prove it. St. Xavier’s is located on an 8.2 acre campus and has degree offerings and facilities in science, commerce, arts and humanities at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The college has a total student strength of 1880 and faculty strength of 61 which make the college a perfect place for learning. It provides a total of 26 courses within the 7 degree programmes admitting and enrolling only females.

St. Xavier’s College for Women is well endowed with modern facilities to enhance the students learning and overall development. The library is located at two different floors and it is centralised through INFLIBNET project facility, so that students can get maximum resources at their disposal. Computer center recognised in 1997 includes other programmes in computer languages to enable the students to update themselves with advanced technologies. The campus can be accessed for research and study purposes hence has Wi-Fi connections throughout the campus. To support student’s physical health the college has a gym equipped with minimum requirements and a trainer. Sports fan are allowed to use the college playground and sometimes borrow equipment from the sports centre.

St. Xavier’s College for Women provides numerous majors and that includes 19 undergraduate courses and 7 postgraduate courses. The college offers full time courses in various disciplines like English, Malayalam, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Commerce and Computer Applications. There are 1,880 UIS students; 1,615 UIS students are enrolled in the institution at the current time. The college has an undergraduate emphasis and currently education is offered to only 13% of the post graduate students while 87% of the students are pursuing UG education.

The entry requirement to most courses offered at St. Xavier’s College for Women is strictly on merit. It is mandatory for the candidate to get required percentage in the qualifying examinations to get the admission. The college admits students for its different undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered within the college depending on the number of students admitted in the various courses offered. For instance, BA Economics has 50, seats while almost all other programmes like BA English, BA Malayalam, B. Sc Mathematics, etc., have 40 only.

St. Xavier’s College for Women believes in spending money on its students therefore has made this a priority in the college. During the academic year 2023, 508 students undergraduate and 73 post graduate students were issued with reimbursements a pointer to the college’s zeal on ensuring that education should not be a preserve of the economically endowed but rather available to all deserving candidate.

About 99 percent of students in the college are from within Kerala and 1 percent from other states. It makes the culture on campus more diverse and also gets students to experience how different people are. The institution also has gospel hostel facility that boasts of 66 rooms, 3 or 4 students in each of the rooms for out station students.
