Stella Mary’s College of Education, Sivagiri, Tamil Nadu,  was set up in the year 2006 to assist educational aspirations in Tamil Nadu. It is a co-educational institution established in Tirunelveli District, which aims at preparing trainees to become professional teachers. It is an affiliated college situated on a large piece of land of area 6.73 acres and is approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Stella Mary’s has an enrolment of one hundred and fifty eight students and a faculty of eight, the school provides a comfortable learning atmosphere for individual development.

 Stella Mary’s College of Education  boasts of an infrastructure that would meet both academic and co-curricular needs of the students. It incorporates a boys’ and a girls’ hostels which makes it easy for out-station learners to find a place to stay. Quality literature can be accessed in the stocked library while laboratory promotes practical learning. For individuals who want to engage in sporting activities, there are good sporting facilities and a fast sporting facility complete with a fully equipped gym. Through IT, students are able to remain pertinent with the current innovation in education. An auditorium contain different programmes and seminars, playing an active role in the campus activities. At present, Stella Mary’s College of Education provides only one full-time course which is the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed). This programme takes 2 years to complete and have an approved student capacity of one hundred students, a precaution that the college takes to makes sure that it offers quality education and thus controls the sizes of classes offered to students. The B.Ed programme is developed in such a way that it will prepare student teachers who will effectively discharge their roles in teaching fraternity. Although the college offers only this one degree, it evidences a unique concentration in preparing teachers.

In the manner of enrolment, Stella Mary’s College of Education follows the government policies of the state, rules framed by the UT administration and the rules and regulation framed by the affiliated university with regard to admitting students by merit. It is noted that selection to the courses offered is done according to the marks, which are acquired by the candidate in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination. This makes sure those that really need to go for the teaching profession for whatever reasons get the chance.
