Suraj College of Education, Melathangal, started in 2008, is a co-educational institution which prepares teachers for the future generation.. This affiliated college is situated in Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, across the land area of 3.34 acres of land. It is NAAC accredited institution and also NCTE norms approved the college which offers two specialisations in the degree of education. The intake capacity of students is 300 and the faculty has 24 members which shows that student faculty ratio is rather good and the college pays adequate attention on each student along with quality education.

Suraj College of Education offers several accommodations to complement learning and development of students in general. Any library is a source of knowledge, and especially when it is filled with the material necessary for creating a professional in a particular field. For those with an interest in sports and physical activities therefore the college provides various sports amenities. The institution understands the significance of information technology and has developed sound IT resources. A college canteen is provisioned for all the staff and the students and students can run and freshen up here. It also adopts a functional working association with its alumni through its alumni association so that students continue to form their fellowships community after their departure from the college. An auditorium within college campus is used for various events and seminars and adds to the lively character of learning environment. To further improve the education of aspiring teachers, STT provides departmental laboratories where students could develop real teaching skills they need once they are assigned for teaching responsibilities. Suraj College of Education offers two full-time courses, a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and a Master of Education (M.Ed) programme. The B.Ed programme with an approved academic capacity of one hundred students takes two years to complete and aims at preparing the student for a teaching profession at the secondary level. The M.Ed programme, which is also a two year coursework programme, has an approved students’ intake of 50 students and is developed for anybody who wants to acquire more knowledge and skills in education. Both programmes are taught in the full-time mode only so students can devoting their maximum attention to the learning process. The total number of seats offered in both the programmes are 150 thus, the college aims to provide quality education primarily for the purpose of controlling the class size.

Admission policies at Suraj College of Education are based solely on merit and follow the state government, university as well as the UT administration guidelines. For the B.Ed programme, there are two categories of students depending on the marks in the qualifying examination and/or the entrance examination. Likewise, for the M.Ed programme evaluates the candidate’s performance in the qualifying examination, entrance examination or any other selection tests as the university guidelines provide.
