SVN College of Education was established in the year 2000 at Tarkwari, Bhoranj tehsil of Hamirpur district the only recognised teacher training institute in Himachal Pradesh. The affiliated college approved by National council for Teacher Education(NCTE) offers a bunch of education related programmes. Established on a small area of 1.1 acres of land, this college actually has 253 students in total and the faculty of 21 members. SVN College of Education is known for its commitment to preparing skilled educators through its three specialised courses: B.Ed, M.Ed, and D.El.Ed. This implies that the institute provides co-education which enhances a diverse learning environment for the trainees teachers.

SVN College of Education boasts about a variety of learning facilities they provide to upgrade students’ experience. This library occupies an area of about 1200 sq ft, built-in capacity of 8000 plus books and 34 national/international journals The library resources include CDs and online journals. To encourage practical learning, the institute has computerized educational technology cum work experience lab, IT lab with 26 computers and LCT projector, psychological lab with different testing equipments. Language is taught in a language lab sizes 30 students. It also has individual hostels for boys and girls with all the modem facilities required by the students. It will have a canteen, where students will be served with; meals and snacks, and a spacious playground of approximately 2035 sq. meters for the students to have their outdoor exercises. It shows the college’s interest in technology from the aspect of the availability of high speed broadband internet connection is provided to all students round the clock.

At present SVN College of Education offers three full time courses that aims to teach teachers at all levels. The institute offers a total of 300 seats for enrolment by students in all its programmes. Even though there are no specific graduation statistics for the recently completed year, it can be said that thanks to the college’s concentration on quality education and on offering practical training courses students complete the programme prepared to find satisfactory job in the educational field.

Mode of admission at SVN College of Education mostly comprise entrance examinations. The HPCET test provides admissions to the B.Ed and D.El.Ed programmes offered to the candidates. This test is conducted at the state level to test the candidates’ ability and content knowledge connected with the domain of education. The college accepts marks secured in the qualifying examination and/or an entrance examination for admission to the M.Ed programme, as per norms prescribed by the state government and the affiliated University.
