The Tamil Nadu Government Dental College and Hospital Chennai is the one of the reputed dental college situated in the Chennai, Tamil Nadu and the college was started in 1952. Having been accredited by the Dental Council of India DCI, it remains one of the affiliated colleges with dental education training exceeding seven decades. The college has 1 undergraduate and 8 postgraduate programme in dentistry with proficiency of various fields of dentistry. Government Dental College and Hospital facilities have been developed to suite the learning aspect of its students in various ways. Facilities: Students have opportunities to exercise modern dental techniques for practical performing of cavity preparations, operative dentistry or surgery in state of art dental unit. The college also focusing on students welfare by providing and availing health and separate hostel accommodation for both male and female students. The Tamil Nadu Government Dental College and Hospital provides its students with a total number of nine full-time courses in the-undergraduate and postgraduate level. The BDS programme, the flagship, admits hundred students as approved by the Ministry of Health. Currently, at postgraduate level, the college offers 8 Master of Dental Surgery degree programmes in various disciplines like Oral and Maximillary Surgery; Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics; Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics; Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge; Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology; Periodontology; Oral Medicine and Radiology; and, Public Health Dentistry. There are 36 approved intakes of postgraduate programmes in total, and there are many courses offered for postgraduate students, the candidates have excellent chances to continue their studies and gain a more extensive outlook on their selected branches of dentistry.
Tamil Nadu Government Dental College offers its students a highly competitive admission since it takes its merits into consideration. For the undergraduate programme, BDS, admission is through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET. The admission process requires any candidate who wishes to be admitted to sitting for the National examination, NEET and pass with the minimum required marks. Likewise for MDS postgraduate courses, admission is granted by National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for MDS (NEET MDS). These national level examinations have been designed in a manner that only the deserving students are able to get the admission to the college. You can get this admission only through the NEET examination. You need to clear the NEET exam with a decent score to get into Tamil Nadu Government Dental college. The qualifying cutoff usually for NEET is 135 marks as per the last year first of all to get eligible to apply for the medical courses.
