Tata Institute of Social Sciences, School of Vocational Education, Mumbai: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

The selective constituent college is the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, School of Vocational Education TISS-SVE Mumbai which was established in 1936. One of the biggest centres of vocationally oriented education in India, the TISS-SVE is based in Deonar, Mumbai. There are 4 levels of degree programmes coded for 47 course offerings in the institute with accommodating fields of study. TISS-SVE being a Co-educational institution, offers equal opportunity for each son/daughter to follow his or her chosen career. It is a University offering a number of amenities to facilitate its students’ learning. 

Tata Institute of Social Sciences library is an important facility as it helps students to get essentials for their effective learning process. The institute also lays great emphasis on technology, and has developed a very strong IT base, in order to prepare the students for the technology-savvy world that they are going to step into. Departments started having laboratories in which students could actually practice, learn practically, I suppose and the campus cafeteria where students could eat and make small talks among themselves. Sports amenities are also provided as well in other buildings so as to have a balanced learning and healthy development of the students. The students in the institute have many and extensive options for their academic programmes. 

TISS-SVE offers both full-time courses, this include B.Voc in Industrial Tool Manufacturing, Mechatronics Technology, Child Protection among others. The institute also provides postgraduate diploma which are PGD in Area of Specialisation such as; Agribusiness Management, Banking, Financial Markets and Insurance and Human Resource Management and Administration. However, there are diploma courses that include Geriatric Care, and Emergency Medical Technician. These diverse programmes which are available in TISS-SVE shows a strong focus of the institution on delivering relevance as well as industry specific qualification. 

This institution follows an uncomplicated policy of admission with no bar on any cast or creed based institutions and merit being the chief criteria of future admissions in TISS-SVE. Though the exam dates are not given, it is probably that the institute uses academic achievement and possibly other related tests as a basis for admission.  The institute is oriented towards the vocational training, in addition, it has a very long history and well-equipped facilities to provide students with relevant knowledge and practical skills. Describing itself as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, SVE’s parent institute reflects a tradition of academic excellence and social science research both on the national and international level, and TISS-SVE also aims to educate the students beyond careers in their chosen fields but also to equip them with knowledge in order to make a positive social impact.
