Town Polytechnic Ballia, established by the late Murali Babu, the first Member of Parliament of Ballia, holds a prestigious position in the field of technical education. Earlier, in 1957 when Town Polytechnic, Ballia was founded, it was known as the Civil Engineering School. Courses at Town Polytechnic, Ballia include 3-year Diploma programmes. In 1962, the Town Polytechnic, Ballia achieved the distinction of being included in the list of Government Aided Institutions.

Town Polytechnic, Ballia journey of growth continued. In 1966, Town Polytechnic, Ballia introduced Diploma courses in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, marking a significant milestone in its curriculum development. Building on this foundation, in 1974, the Town Polytechnic, Ballia introduced the Automobile Engineering program with a well-structured syllabus. In 1987, the Automobile Engineering course at Town Polytechnic, Ballia was integrated into the Mechanical Engineering program, a move that allowed the Town Polytechnic, Ballia to enhance its offerings and streamline its resources. Additionally, the Town Polytechnic, Ballia took a progressive step by introducing a two-year Stenography course aimed at promoting women's participation in technical education.
