Shri Umiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Indore, set up in 2008, is a women college which is under the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. The institute occupies an area of land of 13.68 acres in Rangwasa Rau and is acknowledged ‘B’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). NCTE endorsed it and provides 20 courses in 10 degree programmes. The college records 1, 295 students in total with 1, 082 taking undergraduate programmes while the rest are postgraduate programmes. It has 46 faculties and maintains a policy of having qualifed faculty in various specialisation areas like Arts, Science, Commerce, Education and Computer Applications.

Shri Umiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya offers students varied infrastructures to improve their learning as well as overall development. A  library has text books, reference books, e-books and journals among other things. It has abreast campus equipped laboratories for practical and professional learning especially significant for Science and computer studies. IT infrastructure presents modern computer and coverage of the whole campus with wireless internet access with 10mbps speed. As for the physical fitness, there are provided a marvelous gym and a large playground for football, volley-ball, cricket and other games. The college also provide hygienic canteen, guest house for the visitors, and transportation facilities for students and other staff members.

The courses offered in Shri Umiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya include all the undergraduate and the postgraduate level courses. The educational courses offered include twenty courses such as full time UG, PG degrees, PG diplomas. The total number of students that the institution takes in its various courses is 1, 295. Among them, some of the courses offered along with their intakes are B.Com Computer Applications – 120, B.Sc Computer Science –120, BA – 120, B.Ed – 100 seats. It also as other professional courses like B.Sc Biotechnology, M.Sc Microbiology, and PGD Fashion Designing and Marketing each having a seating capacity of sixty.

In general, the admission to the undergraduate courses depends on the score that has been achieved in the higher secondary examinations. The postgraduate admissions take into account the marks of the examination in relation to the relevant graduation. The B.Ed has its admission process in which candidates are chosen depending on the a qualifying examination and or an entrance examination depending on the policies of the state government or the university.
