NEET will act as a single (and only) entrance exam for every MBBS or BDS seat offered countrywide to be filled. All candidates will have to sit through NEET whether they want to get admission in AIIMS and JIPMER or somewhere else. Yes, students with a gap year between Class 11 and Class 12 are eligible to take NEET. However an amendment by the Medical Council of India (MCI) did propose that a candidate must undergo continuous study of 2 years to be eligible to take the NEET test. The Delhi High Court revoked this amendment.
There is a minimum age criterion of 17 years and above for attending NEET. However, the competent authorities have removed the maximum or upper age limit to appear in the exams, given the candidate matches all the other eligibility criteria.
Candidates who have successfully passed Class 12 from either open school or as private individuals won’t be eligible to sit for the Common entrance test. Also, those with Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject and not the main subject in Class 12 will also not be permitted to appear in the exam.
In 2020, the NEET exam’s application fee shot up to Rs. 1500 for general category, Rs. 1400 for EWS and Rs. 800 for the rest of the reservation category.
This fee can be paid only through online mediums via net banking, debit/credit cards, UPI using SBI/Syndicate bank/ICICI/HDFC or Paytm service providers.
The syllabus includes: Topics of Class 11th and 12th standard for all the 3 subjects in the form of 180 MCQs.
