The syllabus

Module 1 – Introduction to Environment

  • The introductory course module begins by exploring environment as a contemporary concept.  
  • Candidates study a series of subtopics, including the food chain and food web, essentially ecosystem theory and more.  
  • Course content also outlines the specifics of and differences between the natural environment and the man-made environment.

Module 2 – Global Environmental Issues

  • A series of environmental issues of global concern are introduced and explored in-depth in Module 2.  
  • Along with the causes and effects of the most pressing environmental challenges, candidates investigate the specifics of climate change, global warming and the growing threat to biodiversity in various global regions.

Module 3 – Effects of Overexploitation of Biological Resources

  • The following course module brings the effects of overexploitation of biological resources into the discussion.  
  • Candidates explore a wide variety of challenges and issues on the subject of biological resources, along with the effects and possible solutions for overexploitation.  
  • Environmental protection is also introduced and outlined.

Module 4 – Effects of Urbanisation and Agriculture

  • An overview of urbanisation and agriculture follows in Module 4, which specifically outlines and examines the challenges and effects of both from an environmental perspective.  
  • How contemporary agriculture has an impact on the human environment is investigated, along with a broad overview of both traditional and modern agricultural practices.

Module 5 – Environmental Planning

  • Course content in Module 5 shifts focus to environmental management evolution and the importance of proactive environmental planning.  
  • Along with a broad overview of primary objectives, goals and challenges associated with environmental planning, candidates explore the concept of sustainable development.

Module 6 – Energy Management

  • The following course module introduces candidates to energy management and a series of related subtopics/theoretical teachings.  
  • Along with an outline of energy management fundamentals, core topics covered include fossil fuels, the importance of recycling, ecosystem geography and more.

Module 7 – Environmental Management Systems

  • In the closing course module, a series of contemporary environmental management systems are introduced and dissected in-depth.  
  • Candidates are guided through a number of associated concepts including ISO Standards, EMAS Description, PDCA and more, along with further exploration of energy efficiency and environmental accounting.
