Module 1: Introduction to Logistics Management

  • The course begins by providing candidates with a detailed definition of logistics, while outlining some of the most important activities in the field.  
  • The aims and objectives of logistics are discussed, along with the role logistics management plays at the heart of every successful business and an introduction to several important trends in contemporary logistics.

Module 2: Logistics Strategy & Operations

  • A fascinating introduction to strategic decision making follows in module two, in which candidates consider the various decisions that must be made when formulating a logistics strategy.  
  • Course content also covers logistics strategy design and the objectives of logistics audits, along with the importance of forward planning in logistics management.

Module 3: Procurement & Manufacturing Strategies

  • Module three turns attention to procurement, in which candidates consider the differences between procurement and purchasing. 
  • The functions and objectives of procurement are discussed, along with seller selection strategies, how to monitor sellers’ performance and the potential benefits of single source and multi-source procurement.

Module 4: Transport Management

  • Course content then covers transport management in logistics, examining the pros and cons of various different transportation methods.  
  • Candidates learn how to choose an appropriate mode of transportation, in accordance with costs, convenience, availability, speed and so on.  
  • The potential benefits of working with third-party transportation providers are also discussed.

Module 5: Warehousing and Material Handling

  • Module five brings warehousing and material handling into discussion, in which candidates study the functions, objectives and importance of warehouses in supply chain operations.  
  • The benefits and drawbacks of both manual and automated warehouses are discussed, alongside the importance of an effective warehouse layout and an overview of primary warehousing activities.

Module 6: Inventory Management

  • Concluding the course, module six examines the functions and objectives of inventory management in a wider supply chain and logistics setting.  
  • Candidates are introduced to the concept of economic order quantity, along with helpful guidelines for balancing supply with demand, an overview of the true costs of carrying stocks and the various different types of stocks in a typical inventory.
