While other educational degrees focus on one area; a Liberal Arts degree aims to enhance creativity, research, and critical thinking of students across various domains. Fine and applied arts, Natural sciences, Social sciences, and Humanities are four major areas of study in Liberal Arts. In simple words, a liberal arts education provides interpersonal skills in addition to other technical skills.

"The purpose of education is to replace an empty mind with an open one” is a famous line quoted by Malcolm S. Forbes. The Indian education system traditionally emphasised on rote learning and neglected the development of both technical and interpersonal skills. Opportunities for research, critical analysis, and creative thinking were also limited.

But National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has focused on this problem and highlighted the importance of liberal arts subjects in the course curriculum. The NEP aims to integrate the Humanities and Arts with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). BA Liberal Arts and MA in Liberal Arts will help students develop the intellectual, social, emotional, and moral traits required for a more holistic and multidisciplinary education.

Benefits of Liberal Arts

Liberal Arts has been an important part of Western education for a long time, and now it has also been included in the curriculum of other regions of the globe including India. There are many pros of Liberal Arts Education that we have below discussed in detail.

Scientific and Domain Knowledge

The main feature or advantage of liberal arts education is its focus on more than one discipline in one degree. This helps students gain knowledge and understanding of multiple disciplines/subjects which enhances their skills and overall personality.

Critical Thinking

Liberal Arts Education emphasises the development of individuals to their fullest potential by enhancing thinking, problem-solving, and social and ethical capacities. It increases an individual’s creativity and critical thinking to encourage decision-making and innovation.

Communication and Social Interaction

Soft skills are something that have been largely neglected in the Indian education system. Liberal arts education specifically addresses this gap and encourages critical thinking and self-expression. It develops listening, writing, and reading skills to easily convey thoughts and ideas.

Scientific Reasoning and Research Skills

This means the ability to make decisions or draw conclusions based on facts, logic, and evidence. It is an important quality to have, as every day we make several decisions without thinking practically. Liberal arts enhance experience-based learning and increase research and analytical skills.

Questions related to B.A.

Have a question related to B.A. ?

Hello Diya,

Since you're pursuing a BA Hons in Political Science , it makes sense to choose a subject that aligns with your current academic background and interests for CUET PG . Here are some options:

  1. Political Science : This would be the most straightforward choice since it aligns with your undergraduate degree. It allows you to build on the knowledge you've already gained and pursue further studies in politics, international relations, or public policy.

  2. International Relations : If you're interested in global politics, diplomacy, or foreign affairs, this could be a good fit. It's often a natural extension for political science graduates.

  3. Public Administration : This is another option if you're interested in government functions, public policy, and administrative structures.

  4. Sociology : If you are interested in studying society, culture, and the social structures that influence politics, Sociology could complement your political science background well.

  5. Law : If you're inclined towards the legal aspects of politics, human rights, or governance, you could consider pursuing a Master's in Law.

Choose based on your career interests, but sticking with Political Science or closely related fields will make your transition smoother.

I hope this answer helps you. If you have more queries then feel free to share your questions with us we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you and wishing you all the best for your bright future.

To apply for the Integrated BA B.Ed. program at the University of Delhi (DU) through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), you need to choose these subjects:

Language Proficiency: choose any language form Section IA of the CUET.

Domain Subjects: Select 2 subject from List B1

Additional Subject: Choose any  subject from either List B1 or List B2.

This combination aligns with criteria set by DU for the Integrated BA B.Ed. program.

Dear aspirant !!

Hope you are doing well !

You must go for cuet because it will unlock many options for you .

DU Eligibility RequirementMost programs have 60% or above minimum score requirements in class 12th for DU admission through CUET. To qualify for admission to DU's best colleges, you must have a minimum CUET score of 480 out of a possible 800 . However, this hardly qualifies for admission into DU.

Thanking you !!

While you can apply for certain positions in DRDO with just an ITI qualification, a BA degree alone will not qualify you for most jobs at DRDO; typically, technical roles within DRDO require at least a diploma or engineering degree alongside an ITI certificate for technician positions.

  • ITI roles:

DRDO does recruit candidates with only an ITI certificate for technician level positions, where the relevant trade is required.

  • Higher level roles:

For scientific or research roles in DRDO, a bachelor's degree in a relevant science or engineering field is usually needed, not a BA.

However,a person with a B.A. degree can get an ITI certificate ; anyone who meets the eligibility criteria for an ITI course, including educational qualification (usually 10th or 12th grade), can enroll and obtain an ITI certificate, regardless of their previous degree like a B.A.

Good luck!!
