B.A in Hotel Management is an undergraduate programme for the duration of four years, divided into eight semesters focusing on techniques and procedures to operate a hospitality-oriented business such as a hotel, or restaurant.
The undergraduate programme in hotel management prepares students to acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes that it takes to work in a hotel and hospitality industry. Students enrolled for the programme are introduced to fields such as service management, hotel organization, sales, and marketing. There are various specialisations offered in the programmes that explore the management of different facilities, such as luxury hotels, quaint bed and breakfasts, and convention centres. The Bachelor of Arts in Hotel management is an undergraduate degree programme evenly distributed throughout the eight semesters. The roles and responsibilities of an executive chef include planning and directing food preparation and food management activities modifying the old menus and creating new ones that meet quality standards, estimating food requirements and food/labor costs, giving prepared plates the “final touch”, and many more.
Personal chef: The personal chefs are hired by the employers with intermediate organisations, and families. The roles and responsibilities of a personal chef include Accurately measuring meal ingredients for the concerned employers. They are also required to prepare meal ingredients, which contains seasoning of different meats as well as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables and fruits, they are also required to prepare basic salads and sauces as directed by the employer. Additionally, they are responsible for performing basic cleaning duties and ensuring that workplaces are properly sanitized. Plating and presenting meal items as per the employer’s instructions is also one of the major tasks.
Food and beverage manager: As a food and beverage manager, one is responsible for the efficient progress of the department in line with organization’s corporate strategies and brand standards, whilst meeting employee, guest and owner expectations. The food and beverage managers are required to function as the business manager and marketing specialist for the food and beverage department, to ensure that all the outlets and banquets operate successfully, in accordance with the standard of the hotel and are individually profitable.
Catering officer: Catering managers are the professionals who function as lead team chefs and catering assistants. The roles and responsibilities of a catering officer include running the day-to-day catering operations and services in restaurants, hotels and resorts, monitoring the quality of the food and service and for making sure that their outlets perform good. One of the most important parts of the job is achieving good quality within a budget and maintaining high standards of hygiene and customer satisfaction.
Salary in the food management industry depends on the education level and the job responsibilities one handles. However, on an average basis, the pay for most of the job profiles in the industry is quite high. Entry-level salary in the industry is somewhere around Rs. five lakhs per annum which includes tips, bonus, and overtime pay. The average salary for a professional with some experience in the industry is somewhere around Rs. nine lakhs per annum. The top-level salary for the professionals with a good amount of experience is as high as Rs 30 lakhs per annum.

Both BBA and BCOM are good career options and has good scope in them. Both are different and you must choose from them as per your interest. While B.Com. grads can pursue jobs in accounting and finance or even get professional certifications, BBA graduates are better prepared for managerial positions. While a B.Com. prepares you for specialized master's programs in commerce and finance or a certified public accountant, a BBA gives you greater choice for subsequent study.
