Edited By Team Careers360 | Updated on Mar 01, 2024 12:08 PM IST | #BS

The BS MS integrated programme is a dual degree course in various disciplines of science. It is offered in four subjects: Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics. However, this course is available only for students completing their 10+2 in the science stream.

Overall, the BS MS integrated course comes as a suitable replacement for a conventional B.Sc. M.Sc. degree. The main difference is that after pursuing a B.Sc., a candidate can choose to take up a different programme in another university, whereas, in the integrated programme, the candidate finishes both UG and PG courses in one go and from the same institute.

What is BS MS Full Form?

BS MS stands for Bachelor of Science - Master of Science. It is an integrated dual degree programme in science that awards both graduate and postgraduate degrees. The course strengthens the core concepts in the disciplines chosen by the students. This is followed by developing expertise in specific topics and preparation of a master's thesis by students.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Can I pursue a BS MS dual degree if I am a graduate with a UG qualification in any field?

Yes, you can apply for the BS MS course even though you already have an undergraduate degree. However, science stream (PCM/PCB) in 10+2 is a must.

2. Can I get admission in a BS MS programme only on what I scored in my 12th board exam?

This wholly depends on the institute you are applying to. However, it is highly unlikely that any of the top institutes would give admission based on the 10+2 marks alone. The institutes either ask for JEE score or the score of their respective entrance tests.

3. Can I appear for the entrance exam if I scored 55 per cent marks in my 12th board exam?

You will be allowed to give the entrance test. However, it is highly unlikely that you will be shortlisted further as the institutes demand a minimum of 60 per cent marks in the board exams. Although it also depends on the institute you are applying to.

4. What are the popular colleges for BS MS integrated courses in India?

Hello,

The first-year syllabus for BS Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at IISc Bangalore has some common core subjects, especially in mathematics and physics, to establish foundational knowledge. However, each stream has its unique courses as well.

Subject Selection in IISC Bangalore :

  • In the first year, students follow a common curriculum.
  • By the end of the first year, students choose their specialization (Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry) for the remaining years.
  • The exact timing and process for selecting the stream may vary but is usually decided after completing the first year.

Hope it helps !

Hello,

For the BS program at IISc Bangalore, admission is based on JEE Mains scores, but there is an interview process for the final selection . Here's the process:

  • IISc offers BS programs through JEE Mains and KVPY.
  • After qualifying through JEE Mains, candidates need to appear for an interview.
  • The interview assesses academic potential, problem-solving skills, and general aptitude.
  • Final selection depends on the JEE Mains score and the interview performance.
  • It is important to clear both stages for securing admission to the program.

Hope it helps !

Hello,

The Central Universities Entrance Test (CUET) scores are just one part of the admission process, and each university has its own criteria for selecting candidates. Given that you’ve scored 443 out of 850 and have taken the required subjects for BCom and BCom Hons , here’s a general idea of how to approach the situation:

  1. University of Delhi (DU): DU has various colleges with different cut-offs for BCom (General) and BCom (Hons). The cut-off scores can vary significantly between colleges and even across different categories (General, OBC, SC/ST). While 443/850 is a decent score, you’ll need to check the specific cut-offs for the colleges you're interested in. Historically, the cut-offs for popular colleges can be quite high, so it's worth looking at the past trends and average scores.

  2. Banaras Hindu University (BHU): Similar to DU, BHU also sets cut-off scores for its BCom (Hons) program. Given the variability in cut-offs from year to year, it’s important to compare your score with previous years’ cut-offs. 443/850 might be competitive for some colleges but could be on the lower side for others, depending on the number of applicants and their scores.

  3. Other Central Universities: Many other central universities use CUET scores for admissions into their programs. Each university will have its own cut-off marks and selection criteria. It’s a good idea to check the specific requirements and cut-offs for the universities you’re interested in.

Since cut-offs can be influenced by factors like the difficulty of the exam and the performance of other candidates, you might also consider looking into universities with potentially lower cut-offs or those that have a more holistic approach to admissions. Additionally, keep an eye on any updates or announcements from the universities regarding admission processes.

You can use the DU college predictor to predict which college you can get in DU based on your score :-

Hope it helps !
