On reading about the survey carried out in the Data and Computational Science field, it is seen that computational and data science is one of the rapidly growing fields in the country. After completing graduation, the students will be offered with diverse career options in Data and Computational Science filed. The students can decide which career option they want to go to. They can work in the fields of aerospace engineering, data science, environmental modelling, medical development, gene sequencing and meteorology. They can also go for further studies in PhD or specialisation in a particular subject.
New trends keep coming up in the Data and Computational Science field to improve the daily life of people. The trends in the field of data science included how to increase the amount of data, how to improve the machine learning algorithms and lastly how to fill data in computers via different resources. This improvement led to the three new trends in the Data and Computational Science sector.
The Data Explosion – The use of digital technology in today’s world has taken a huge leap, and now there is no coming back from that. In the future, there is going to increase in the data. This new data will help us a lot in the science models we make, give rise to even new models and innovative cases
Growth of Internet of Things (IoT) - There are around 7 billion IoT devices connected, and the numbers keep on rising each day. Since more devices are coming, the hardware in these devices is improving at a fast rate and the data delivered now would be richer and more diverse. In the future, IoT is expected to be generated from airline, mining and auto industries too.
Social Media – This is another source which has a huge amount of data. Another source of data can be weblogs, entertainment, payment transactions, and surveillance data.
Data and Computational Science Job Profiles
There are various job profiles available for the students after their graduation. Some of the job profiles are given below –
Job Profile | Job Description |
A Data Scientist’s primary duty is to collect data. This data is collected by analysing the business or if you’re setting up a new business. Studies can also give such data. After collecting it and formatting it into a new format for the ease of analysis, they can set up new ways of collecting the data, experimenting the ways. They create automatic feeding tools for the data to reduce the manpower consumed. To find old data on something, they have to search through past data as well. They can make posters, reports and presentations for presenting their business data in front of clients.
A Data Analyst analyses and studies data. This includes the creation, updates and deletion of the data. They check the quality of the data and make sure that the data is correct. They also work with quality assurance analyst if they need help. They process confidential data and approve it according to the guidelines. Develop the reports and then perform analyses in it. Support all the innovations made in the field of data integrity and normalisation. Assess tests and implement the innovations or the upgraded software which will help in making strategic decisions.
Computer Scientist | A Computer Scientist deals with the problems related to the conceptualisation of computers and the maths-related model. They make new products along with the solving of computing problems. They conduct research which involves experimenting on new things and the scientific models. They can work with the programmers, IT professionals, mechanical, electrical and software engineers which may help them solve the problems and even develop new products. They can study how AI, robots and virtual reality can help them in creating new products. |
A Senior Software Engineer comes up with the solutions related to software after going through the needs, talking with the users, studying how the system flows, data usage and work processes. They investigate the problems carefully and find solutions. They give work to the operational facility if it is feasible after evaluating different parameters like problem, solutions and proposed solutions. They present the solutions in front of the clients and the company via documents, flowcharts, layouts, and diagrams. They also improve the operations by analysing and recommending the changes under the policies and procedures. |
