Admission to MD courses in many of the colleges is granted through the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test PG, commonly known as NEET PG. Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is the responsible body for the All India Counselling for the Doctor of Medicine degree programme. Individuals who hold an MBBS degree can pursue an MD degree to get comprehensive training on a particular medical specialisation.

There is no specific "MD" or Doctor of Medicine course in Psychology in India. Other advanced postgraduate courses in Psychology are available as follows:
In the practice of clinical psychology, one could start with an M.Sc. or M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology because, unlike medicine, there is no MD in Psychology.
Tata Memorial Centre (TMH ) offers MD courses in a variety of subjects, including pathology, immuno hematology and blood transfusion, and radio diagnosis but not MD in Preventive and Social Medicine.
