What is the full form of CPR?

CPR stands for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in its complete form. Cardio refers to the heart, Pulmonary to the lungs, and Resuscitation is the act of reviving someone during CPR. CPR is frequently considered a lifesaving technique in emergency cases like heart attacks or cardiac arrests. Heart disease, asphyxia, drowning, electrical shock, etc., can all result in cardiac arrest. Rescue breathing and chest compression are both necessary steps in the CPR procedure. The person's lungs receive oxygen through rescue respiration. Until the heartbeat and breathing can be recovered, compressions in the chest maintain the blood flowing with oxygen.

Importance of CPR

  • If blood circulation is interrupted, permanent death or brain damage will advance quickly. Thus, it is imperative to sustain breathing and blood circulation until the arrival of medically skilled aid and CPR can be used.

  • Any capable person can perform CPR, which entails external chest compressions and respiratory rescue.

  • When performed within the first six minutes after a person's heart stops, CPR can keep them alive until medical attention arrives.

  • CPR is performed until the patient is pronounced dead or the heartbeat returns to normal.

CPR Safety Precautions

Several things to think about before administering CPR to the patient:

  • Examine the area to make sure it is secure enough to perform CPR.

  • Recognise whether the patient is awake or asleep.

  • As soon as you can, ask for emergency medical care.
