They borrowed money from a friend and Veeda bought the necklace she had always dreamed of. At the ball, Mathilde was the centre of attention and danced with the most distinguished men. She was in her element, feeling elegant and refined.

Climax: On the way home from the ball, Veeda realised that the necklace was missing. They searched everywhere but could not find it. They had to replace it, but it took them ten years of hard work and sacrifice to pay off the debt.
