Gas Authority of India Limited is known as GAIL. It is the biggest natural gas distribution and processing firm in India. Its main office is in New Delhi. GAIL is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange(BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE). B C Tripathi serves as GAIL's chairman and managing director (CMD) as of 2016.
Natural gas, liquid hydrocarbons, liquefied petroleum gas transportation, petrochemicals, city gas distribution, exploration and production, GAILTEL, and electricity generation are among the services provided by GAIL.
The Indian government formed GAIL India as a PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) under the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry in 1984.
The Indian government declared GAIL to have Maharatna status on February 1, 2013. According to the analysis, it came in at number 131 out of the 150 reputable and trustworthy brands in India.
GAIL joined the NSE, BSE, and DSE(Delhi Stock Exchange ) directories in 1996.
In 1999, Lakwa and Usar LPG(Liquefied petroleum gas) plants received approval to begin production.
GAIL granted approval in 2001 to construct the first and longest interstate LPG transmission pipeline, which will connect Jamnagar in Gujarat with Loni in Uttar Pradesh.
A 12% investment in Gujarat's GSEGs(Gujarat State Energy Generation) was successfully pulled out in 2002.
The joint venture between GAIL and HPCL(Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited) known as Bhagyanagar Gas Limited was founded in August 2003.
The SCOPE(Standing Conference of Public Enterprises) Meritorious Award for enterprise authority and regulation was given to GAIL for the 2007–2008 fiscal year.
In 2010, it established a Representative Office in Egypt. It regularly held the top spot in the Platts Global Ranking for the classification of gas utilities in Asia throughout the same year.
2011 saw GAIL win the Outstanding PSU of the Year Award from Managing India. This PSU is the first to receive the grant.
It was recognised in 2012 with the MoU(Memorandum of understanding) Excellence Award as the petroleum industry's best-functioning CPSE(Central Public Sector Enterprises) for the fiscal year 2009–2010. The pipeline, which is up to 2200 kilometres wide and runs from Dahej to Bathinda, was unveiled by the PM(Prime Minister) in the same year.
