ICMR stands for the Indian Council of Medical Research. It is a critical organization for advancing, managing, and supporting biomedical research in India. It is funded through the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The 26 national institutes that makeup ICMR focus their research on particular areas of public health, such as tuberculosis, leprosy, cholera, diarrhoeal diseases, viral illnesses like AIDS, malaria, and kala-azar, vector control, nutrition, food, and drug toxicology, medical statistics, immuno-hematology, reproduction, and oncology.
