It is always good to have some prequite knowledge about the subject but not compulsory. He will be taught everything about programing and technical stuffs from the basics. Moreover the first semester is an extension of what he has learnt in senior secondary education. Computer languages such as python,c or Java is introduced subsequently one by one to avoid burden from the candidates.

First of all Congratulations on scoring such a good rank . I think you should not worry  as your daughter will easily be able to get CSE in CBIT,Hyderabad as their closing rank is around 5200 so she shoudn't have a problem getting admission there . Preferring CSE is better than Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Because these terms are new to Indian education system. Where it will take some time for faculties to adopt to that syllabus. Though the future world depends on Artificial Intelligence. It will take some time to be recognized. Teachers are going to learn these things along with us. From my perspective pursuing Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning as specialization is better than pursuing it as a under graduate program. Choose wisely, ALL THE BEST.
