If has a great passion for cars and its engines.Which is the best branch for him mechanical, automobile or automotive engineering
Hi Vinay,
According to me, if you have a great passion for cars and their engines you should go for Automotive Engineering because:-
- Mechanical Engineering is an old and a broad branch for study of all types of machines. Its applications are design, analysis, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems.
- Automobile Engineering is specialisation course for study of all types of automobiles or vehicles. Its applications are vehicle designing, repairing, testing and assembling.
- Automotive engineering is very much similar to Automobile Engineering. Specifically, this course focuses on engineering of cars. Its applications are mechanical, thermodynamic, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical principles with an aim to resolve engineering problems of cars.

what is the difference between machenical, automobile and automotive engineering.
It deals with the design, construction, and use of machines.
It also apply the principles of physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems.
The
This field basically requires an understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, and structural analysis.
Automotive engineering
It deals with the design, manufacture and operation of ground based vehicles. It includes motorcycles, buses, trucks etc.
It mainly focuses on the design, research and development, and production.
It also deals with the construction and designing of automotives.
Automobile engineering
It focuses on the cars. It specifically deals with the designing of cars, operations in production of cars, designing of engines and fuel management. Thus, automobile engineering can be considered as a sub branch of automotive engineering.
Im now pursuing my production engineering course and have a passion in automobilefield. many advise me to not to pursue my PG as automobile engineering due to lack of jobs and scope. so my question is, whether should I do AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING (MS) or AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING (ME) or go with my core
Hey there,
Greetings!
Hope you’re having a great day.
I would like to inform you that it is of course better if you opt for Master of Science from a foreign university in a country like USA or Germany because the demand for this field is increasing day by day except for the fact that automobile industry business in India is at an exponential downfall in a few years from now.
Choose wisely according to your field of interest.
Let me know if you have further clarifications by mentioning it in the comment section below.
Have a nice day!
Wish that you have a bright future ahead.
Thanks.
can you tell me about automotive engineering, careers in it, jobs, salaries, courses, colleges and fees?
Dear Aspirant,
Automotive engineering is one of the most exciting, challenging and rewarding careers. Whenever a customer drives a new vehicle off a dealership lot, he or she is taking with them the technical expertise of many engineers, but in particular, the automotive engineer.
Automotive engineers research, design and develop vehicles and their subsystems. They work with sophisticated technologies to create products that thrill the senses and bring the freedom of mobility to the world.
Jobs and Compensation
Currently, the cities with the highest paying automotive engineering jobs are Auburn Hills, Michigan and Detroit, Michigan. The states with the heaviest concentration of automotive engineers are Michigan, California and Texas.
According to the Society of Automotive Engineers International (http://www.sae.org/) (SAE), the average total cash compensation for automotive engineers in 2012 was $117,600. This was about a ten percent jump from 2010. The SAE also reported that the 25th to 75th percentile range of total cash compensation for automotive engineers 2011 was $83,500 to $134,200. The salary range for automotive engineering jobs in the most popular industries are:
- Automotive Manufacturing $54,000 – $96,000
- Original Equipment Manufacturing $50,000 – $89,000
- Systems & Components Manufacturing $51,000 – $92,000
- Engine Manufacturing $50,000 – $91,000.
