what areLack of Autonomy of Management
The government, the minister concerned, and the Parliament interfere in the day-to-day working of these enterprises and due to this interference, it has become difficult for these undertakings to run on sound business principles. For managing the units efficiently, there is need to run them on business principles and further they should be given a large measure of autonomy in the day-to-day administration.
One of the methods adopted by the government to improve the management is to establish holding companies to take over the management of some public sector undertakings. The government has already established a holding company, Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL), to administer the steel units in the public sector. It has already shown good results.

Hello,
Educational autonomy meaning a situation where the learner is totally responsible for all the decision concerned with his or her learning.

Main benefits are that they are creat their own question papers, their own examination time schedule due to good and bad time of students and they are own college vigilance for examination. So it's the main benefits.
But the problem is if any problem occurs then no one you gonna blame. You have to solve every problem by yourself. Infact before need the autonomy you can check them that you have best environment and equipment for the autonomy structure.
All the best.

For ComedK should one choose Autonomous colleges? For example if you compare SMVIT and NMIT, later is autonomous but former is not. Cutoff rank for SMVIT is lower than NMIT. This indicates autonomy do not play a major factor??
Hey aspirant,
There are certain differences between autonomous colleges and non-autonomous colleges. Firstly, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT) is an autonomous institute but under VTU, which means degree is awarded by VTU itself, whereas institutes like Manipal Institute of Technology is a fully autonomous college and they award their own degree.
Now, the advantage with autonomous colleges like NMIT is that they have the freedom to regularly update the curriculum based on industry needs, unlike non-autonomous colleges affliated to VTU, which takes significantly more time for changes in curriculum. They can also conduct their own exams and also offer generous summer vacation holidays (in case that matters to you). In case of non-autonomous colleges, students have to write exams conducted by VTU, the results can often be slow and paper re-correction is often a mess.
If you go with NIRF rankings for 2020, NMIT has bagged the 128th position, while SMVIT finds itself in the 251-300 rank nationwide. So cutoff isn't necessarily an indication of which college is better, maybe the institution wants students with better ranks while NMIT is a bit more flexible with it.
