Question : Comprehension:
Read the given passage and answer the questions that follow.
New York City is on 'high alert' after reporting 100 cases of a rare inflammatory disease apparently tied to COVID-19 in children. The city recently began reporting rising cases of paediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome, an illness that officials say is similar to toxic shock or Kawasaki disease, with symptoms including a fever and abdominal pain and which 'appears to be linked to an immune response to COVID-19,' The New York Times reports.
City Mayor Bill de Blasio, in a press briefing on Thursday, said, "We are now on high alert in addressing the syndrome after the number of confirmed cases of paediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome in the city has reached 100." "Among those cases, 55 children have tested positive for COVID-19 or the antibodies", de Blasio said, "and one child has died." Two other children have also died from the illness in New York State, according to the Times. De Blasio had reported 82 cases of the syndrome in the city.
These developments continue to be 'really troubling' after it was previously thought that "children seemed to have very little effect from this disease," de Blasio said. He urged parents to call their doctor immediately if a child had a persistent fever, a rash, abdominal pain, vomiting, and especially a combination of these symptoms.
Question:
The new disease is said to be a 'multi-system disorder'. This means:
Option 1: it affects many body functions
Option 2: it affects a large number of people
Option 3: there are many cases
Option 4: it requires many tests
Correct Answer: it affects many body functions
Solution : The correct choice is the first option.
A multi-system disorder implies that the disease has an impact on various systems within the body, suggesting that it affects different organs or functions simultaneously. In the context of the paediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome discussed in the passage, this could involve several bodily systems, such as the immune system, digestive system (abdominal pain), and potentially other symptoms.

Question:
Select the most appropriate option to fill in the blank No. 8.
Option 1: between
Option 2: across
Option 3: through
Option 4: along
Correct Answer: through
Solution : The correct choice is the third option.
Explanation:
The phrase through the hole indicates that Beaumont saw the inside of the stomach by observing through the opening or opening created, likely as a result of the medical situation he was dealing with. It suggests direct visual access to the interior of the stomach, emphasising the unique and valuable opportunity he had for observation.
Therefore, the complete sentence is: Beaumont took it as a great opportunity to see the inside of the stomach through the hole.

Select the most appropriate option to fill in the blank No. 3.
Option 1: damaged
Option 2: devastated
Option 3: decayed
Option 4: decreased
