hi what is PGPM and what is FPM ..please tell me...which course is better ..
Hello Sai,
PGPM:-
The two-year full-time Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) is the flagship programme of IIMs. Its main objective is to develop young men and women into competent professional managers, capable of working in any sector of organized activity, proceeding leadership and achieving excellence in performance while contributing to the welfare of the larger society. The programme specifically attempts to:
Equip students with the required conceptual and interpersonal skills and sense of social purpose for managerial decision-making,
Develop leadership capabilities to act as change agents and be a source of motivation in the organizations they work in,
Nurture the desire to excel in performance without compromising integrity, honesty and fairness.
It is equivalent to the Masters in Management program for entry to mid career professionals. It is usually slightly at a higher level that MIM and slightly below MBAs offered by universities abroad.
FPM:-
The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is the doctoral programme of the Indian Institute of Management . The objective of the programme is to provide students with necessary skills to identify and research complex issues in the field of management. FPM seeks candidates with outstanding academic backgrounds, intellectual curiosity and discipline needed to make scholarly contribution.
FPM is a research programme. To the selected students, IIM provides an excellent environment for carrying out advanced research, thus creating highly committed researchers trained in the most recent methodologies and engaged in producing original research work.
IIM’s doctoral programme provides a diverse set of opportunities for interdisciplinary education and research. The small entering class ensures close interaction with the faculty, where students can determine their own directions under the guidance of their thesis advisory committees.
The student becomes part of one of the eleven functional/sectoral groups and acquires the basic theoretical knowledge and practical aspects of the area. This allows close interaction with faculty members, who provide the intellectual stimulation and help develop the student’s own research interests and professional goals. The programme is strongly committed to preparing thought leaders both for the academic and corporate world.
Students spend generally a little over four years that includes two years of rigorous course work. Course work in the first year provides a general management overview and develops basic skills for analyzing managerial problems. In the second year, students take advanced doctoral level courses in their areas of specialization. The doctoral dissertation, for the next couple of years, provides them with an opportunity to make original contribution to an area of management or to one of its source disciplines.

Is FPM from IIM Raipur good? What is the career in it?
Hi
IIM Raipur has been set up the Government of India in 2010, and the FPM (Fellow Program in Management) program has been started 8 years back, that is from academic year 2012-13. The main aim of the program is to prepare scholars for the teaching and advance research.
FPM from Raipur is a good choice and you can consider the following highlights will help you making your decision:
- IIM Raipur is a very new school and their infrastructure for research is still “developing”.
- It has good connectivity to the campus.
- Unlike other institutes, IIM allows you to formally begun your research in 2nd year itself.
As far as Careers are concerned, following points will give you the insight:
- FPM program has as such no companies directly coming for the placement for FPM batch.
- Majority of the students are placed as an assistant professor job in various institutions
- Most of the students apply for the Post doctorate and it is also a good option. However, if you are interested in campus placements, you can apply to the industries directly.
- Post your studies, Consultant profile is one of the most demanded roles post FPM and the Research department is the second best option.
You can even go through the following colleges for your FPM and explore more choices before going for IIM-Raipur:
Management Development Institute(MDI) Gurgaon:
The faculty is plus point here, they are quite experienced and will be add on to your research program.
Eligibility Criteria
I have written CAT and expecting more than 90 Percentile. Please tell top management clgs which are accepting CAT score for PHD/FPM.
That usually means that each interviewing panel is free to ascertain these abilities from each candidate and the overall CAT score or other requirements are a function of the combined presentation of other candidates. However, given the general increasing level of competition, it may not be safe to go into any CAT related exam / interview or evaluation with an under 90 Percentile score. If you do, you should have a capable defense of your considerations, why you think a lower score is enough for you to pursue a Phd and the general level of capabilities of your peers must also be sufficiently whittled (rofl) so that your scores may shine in comparison.
IIMB has for example pursued a RAT to move away from a CAT specific evaluation of all incoming candidates but includes critical subject matter from Economics and Game theory as well as calculus to ascertain basic skills for FPM. Most Operations and DS areas conduct tests at different campuses or the RAT prior to FPM interviews because of their perceived unique requirements from candidates in terms of technical skills. IIMC also favors an additional round of qualitative or quantitative RAT to ensure no dependence on candidates CAT scores than the reading of basic aptitude and ability to cope with coursework
Thanks,
Azim
Someone please tell me How is the FPM program in IIM,also is it worth doing rather than PGDM?
FPM at IIM is rather focused on research. It's a PhD programme. If you are interested into making carer in academics and research and teaching then this programme is good for you. If you are interested only into corporate sector/ starting your own business then I suggest go for PGDM programme.
Will 88 percentile be sufficient for call for FPM from IIM A, B, C for - (i) GEN (ii) ST category?
Its rather doubtful. You can expect for ST category. But this call also depends on b school, academics and profile.
