Mechanical students dont need to carry laptops to classrooms in most of cases, you will need it for your project works only , so normal laptop is sufficient .

See as per the official website, there are no such restrictions regarding the laptop specifics. So you can take any laptop which is available.

Now when you are considering a laptop then you should consider a good processor, i5 or i7 processor and SSD must be available along with graphics card. Now most of this specifics are available in gaming laptops. So the laptop will obviously be helpful.

It is too late for you to participate in counselling process. By reference to your rank, you should have participated in the third phase only and currently it is being done for candidates with a rank above 1lac. There was a descent chance if you had applied earlier due to lesser demand of the mentioned course and campus. If you were not alloted any seat despite participating in the counselling, it may be available to you but only in category four or five.
