For turbulent flow over a flat plate, the average value of Nusselt number is prescribed by the relation Nu = 0.664 (Re) (Pr) Which of the following is then a false statement? The average heat transfer coefficient increases as a) 1/5 power of plate length b) 2/3 power of thermal conductivity c)
Hi Aspirant ,
The correct answer for the question is OPTION A - 1/5 power of plate length . This is because the average heat transfer co-efficient reduces with length as 1/5th power of length . For laminar flow over a flat plate, the average value of a Nusselt number is prescribed by the relation
Nu = 0.664 (Re) (Pr) , the dynamic viscosity has an inverse relation to 1/6 power. To double the convective heat transfer coefficient, the dynamic viscosity has to be decreased 64 times.

relationship between temprature and pressure
Gay-Lussac's Law: The Pressure Temperature Law. This law states that the pressure of a given amount of gas held at constant volume is directly proportional to the Kelvin temperature . With an increase in temperature , the pressure will go up.
can anyone pls give an example where temperature of a system remains constant but heat transfer takes place??
hello aspirant,
For an ideal gas, the temperature remains constant because the internal energy only depends on temperature in that case. Since at constant temperature, the entropy is proportional to the volume, the entropy increases in this case, therefore this process is irreversible. An example of an isobaric system is a gas, being slowly heated or cooled, confined by a piston in a cylinder. The work done by the system in an isobaric process is simply the pressure multiplied by the change in volume, and the P-V graph looks like: Isochoric - the volume is kept constant .
hope this information helps..
all the best for bright future
guys can anyone tell me the relation between latent heat and specific heat capacity??
Changing the internal energy of a material will cause it to change temperature or change state: the energy required for a particular change in temperature is given by the specific heat capacity . the energy required for a particular change in state is given by the specific latent heat .
Specific heat capacity is the heat required to raise the temperature of unit mass of a substance by 1°C(1K). ... Latent heat of the substance is the heat required to change the phase of the substance without any change in thetemperature.
If btech manufacturing engineering students apply GATE in mechanical branch then is their any problem occur when apply for job and their are some subject which are not in manufacturing branch like heat transfer, refrigerator and mechanics .
hello aspirant,
a b.tech final year or pass out student can apply in gate from any stream. even a mechanical engineer can opted for computer science engineering branch. however the preparation is only depends on you that how well can you prepare. now coming to your point, you may apply in gate from mechanical engineering branch, but the psu's only hires for b.tech in mechanical degree holder candidates. and for manufacturing engineering there is very low vacancy. but you can use your gate score and can pursue m.tech from top institution.
hope you may understand.
