i have 84% in 10th 87% in 12th and Im at my 2nd year of btech graduation will i get a call from any top IIMs if i can score about 98%le in CAT.
Hi!
Scoring a mere percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT) does not give you a guarantee to get an interview call from a top IIM. The institutes offering the MBA/ PGP in India, especially the IIMs have a very complex admission process . These institutes give consideration to a lot of factors while giving an interview call to candidates. These factors include CAT score, Class 10, Class 12, and Bachelor's degree marks, work experience, academic, and gender diversity, etc. If you even score somewhere around 98 percentile in the CAT , this will not mean that you will get a confirm call from top IIMs (specially the top 6 IIMs). However, if you belong to the reserved category, then there are good chances of receiving an interview call from top IIMs at 98 percentile. Therefore, the CAT score is not the only criteria but is one of the criteria for admission to the IIMs.
You can predict your CAT percentile by using the CAT Percentile Predictor 2024 .
I am nc obc female with acads as,10th-96%,12th-94%, graduation (physics hons 74%), no work ex but excellent extra curriculars(not sure if they matter). what would be a safe percentile that would fetch me good iims??
The Common Admission Test (CAT) is one of the most important components to get admission in any IIM. In order to get admission in IIMs, you must obtain a good percentile in the CAT. There is no specific percentile stated by the IIMs which will give you a 100% WATPI shortlist. However, every IIM has specified a minimum overall and sectional percentile which you must obtain in order to get eligible to get a WATPI shortlist. Even scoring that minimum percentile in the CAT will not give you a guarantee to get an interview call as it depends upon various factors.
IIMs give consideration to a number of factors while giving WATPI call. These factors include CAT score, Class 10, Class 12, and Bachelor's degree marks, work experience, academic, and gender diversity, etc. Your first priority should be to clear both the overall and sectional percentile in the CAT as stated by the individual IIM for the NC OBC category candidates.
If you have no work experience, it will not be a disadvantage as a substantial number of candidates who get admission in the IIMs are freshers with no work experience. You will not get the marks allotted for work experience. Your extra-curricular activities will help you during your Interviews but they will have no role to get you a WATPI shortlist.
The CAT score is not the only criteria but is one of the major criteria for admission. The cutoffs might be lower for NC OBC female category candidates. As you belong to the reserved category, there is a good chance that you might get a WATPI shortlist if you perform well in the CAT. Your priority should be to maximize your CAT score and percentile.
The marks obtained by you in Class 10, Class 12, Graduation, and academic diversity will play a major role to get a shortlist for the WATPI process along with the CAT score and your performance in the WATPI round will play a major role during your final selection.

What is the previous year cutoff in IIMs?
Hii There,
The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) typically announce their minimum CAT cutoff scores for shortlisting candidates well in advance of the CAT exam results being declared. These cutoff scores serve as a benchmark for both individual sectional and overall percentile requirements that candidates need to meet to move on to the next stage of the admission process.
In recent years, there has been a trend among IIMs to lower their cutoff scores. For instance, IIM Ahmedabad has set its CAT cutoff at just 80 percentile, while IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, and IIM Kozhikode have their cutoffs set at 85 percentile. This adjustment in cutoff scores indicates a more inclusive approach by these prestigious institutions, making it possible for a broader range of candidates to be considered for admission.
I hope this answers your question.
Thanks
