UPSC conducts Indian Economics Service every year subjected to availability of vacancy, for instance earlier this year UPSC had notified about not conducting this exam because there were no vacancy in the department of Ministry of Finance, but later on decision was changed, notification came in the month of August and last date to apply was 1st September, in order to appear for this exam candidates are required to do post-graduation in any of the following disciplines such as Economics, Applied Economics, Econometrics, Business Economics, you may check out the official notification of this year at https://www.upsc.gov.in/sites/default/files/Notifi_IES_2020_Eng.pdf for more details regarding this.

As per the latest notification of UPSC you must be a graduate from an engineering background from any recognized central/state university. It is known that UPSC conducts Engineering Service Examination every year after clearing which you will be called as an IES Officer.
Detailed eligibility criteria for your educational qualification is described below :-
- You need a degree in Engineering(B.Tech/BE in any stream) from any Central or State University or any other Educational Institutions established by either an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities or UGC.
- A degree/diploma in the Engineering from any foreign University/College/Institution and recognised by the Government for the purpose from time to time.
- Aspirants must pass Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India).

For becoming an I.E.S. officer, candidate need to be graduate from amy engineering field. This is the eligibility requirements for attempting this exam through UPSC examination. So if you are graduating from BA you are not eligible for this exam.

Indian economic service exam is conducted by union public service commission (UPSC) once every year. Duration of the exam is 3 days and is usually conducted in pen and paper mode.
Eligibility criteria to appear for this exam is as follows:-
- Indian National
- Post graduate degree in economics/ various economics stream
- Age between 21-30
Aspirants who clear this exam are placed into various cadre posts into planning commission, planning board, ministry of economic affairs, national sample survey and other allied offices where specialists in economics and statistics are required.
exam pattern and syllabus:-
Part 1 :- written examination of 1000 marks
part 2:- viva/interview of 200 marks
Written exam consist of sections such as general English, general studies, general economics 1, general economics 2, general economics 3, indian economics. First two subject sections are of 100 marks and other 4 of 200 marks.
these, questions will be in eassy type. For interview round you need to prepare current affairs as well, along with your subject knowledge you need to have a current issues knowledge as well.
