Hello aspirant,
I hope that you are doing absolutely great.
With reference to your above mentioned query, I would like to tell you that for taking admission in different Undergraduate courses you need to give different entrance level examinations. Indian Institute of Science Bangalore admissions are offered in the following branches: General Management, Astronomy, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering , Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering , Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering , Manufacturing Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Product Design etc.
If you wish to take Admission in B.Sc. (Research) then you need to give following entrance based examination based on your performance - KVPY /JEE Main/ JEE Advanced /NEET-UG .
Admission in some M.Tech programmes such as M.Tech Aerospace Engineering, M.Tech Chemical Engineering, M.Tech Electrical Engineering is based on GATE scores. Whereas, for some M.Tech specialisation such as M.Tech Climate Science, M.Tech Earth Science etc there will be an interview round as well .

i passed 12th in 2020 , am i eligible to aplly for iisc ug bs physics 2022 through jee mains in 2022 score?
Hello,
The eligibility criteria to apply for IISc, Bangalore for admission to BS Physics is that a candidate must have passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination in 2021 or appearing in 2022 are eligible to apply. The candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as mandatory subjects in 10+2 or its equivalent. The candidates belonging to general category must have scored minimum 60% aggregate marks. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category must have passed in the qualifying examination.
You are not eligible to apply for IISc, Bangalore as you have passed 10+2 in the year 2020. However, you can appear for JEE Main 2022. A candidate can appear for JEE Main for three consecutive years from the year of the passing in the qualifying examination.
WHICH IS BEST FOR ASTROPHYSICS? IISC, IIA OR IISER?
Hello Aspirant,
The astrophysics department at IISc is very small and consists of only six faculty and 10–15 PhD students. However, IIA is a major astrophysics institute of India, with several world class facilities (see - Indian Institute of Astrophysics). In IISc all faculty work in theoretical aspects (mostly high energy astrophysics) of astronomy, so you don’t have much choice. Also one important drawback at IISc at present is that, two of the most senior faculty are going to retire in a year or so and they don’t take any student. Other faculties are also very much occupied. This is the reason that IISc is part of JAAP program where you will have opportunity to work with faculties of IIA, RRI, ISRO and IISc at your interest.
Now coming to IIA, there are about 50–60 faculty so obviously a very large group. They work on several topics in astronomy (but mostly stellar or solar physics). Most of the faculty work in observational astronomy as they have their own observatories. IIA is also a very active member of ASTROSAT, therefore you are always in priority of data acquisition (IISc will not be able to get data that easily!). Since they are a big group, they take more people for PhD hence you have higher probability getting there. Only drawback is that, the faculties are restricted to take a certain number of students (and this limit is actually very small) so sometimes even though student and professor have a mutual understanding, student cannot join that faculty. Otherwise, it is one of the best institutes to join to pursue a good career in astronomy.
Hope you find it helpful
let me know in the comment box if you are having any further doubts
thanks
Good Luck!
if qualified for neet, will I be eligible for BS research from IISc
Hello,
Yes, you can go for BSc research from IISc after qualifying in the NEET exam. FROM, 2011 onwards, this change has been done. The BSc course is for 4 years and you can enroll in this course after qualifying for any national exam. The student must have studied Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry in class 12th.
Hope this has cleared your doubts. Thank you.

- One of the way to get into iisc bangalore is by attempting the KVPY also known as the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana which takes place around 1st week of november but due the covid 19 pandemic it will conducted in the month of january.
- This examination is a great way to get a seat into the renowed iisc , iiser's ,iiit of hyderabad and cvce even before your 12th board examinations and your other entrance examinations.
- The extra perks of this course that you get a fellowship while pursueing your undergraduate course if you wish to study in the field of pure sciences and research.
- You also get free entry to all the national libraries of India.
- the process is simple , you have to attempt your KVPY examination if you are in 11th or 12th standard and according to the your score if it fits into the cut off marks you will appear for an interview where they will test your actual concepts of physics, chemistry , biology and Matematics.
- if you clear the interview you might get into one of the above renowed institutions and enjoy the perks of being the kvpy scholar
