I got 83%ile in Jee Mains, home state Maharashtra, OBC NCL MALE category what choices I choose to get NIT/IIIT in any branch in JOSAA

you can first check the cut-off rank of the reputed colleges. Next you can shortlist those colleges and fill in the Josaa form with those college names. If you want IIIT or NIT then you can apply as you mentioned with your caste category validations in the JOSAA and wait for the seat allotment. Moreover the branch choosing is completely dependent on you, with 83%ile in jee mains and category facility you can first decide yourself your choice of branch, check its respective cut-off and then apply on JOSAA.
I got 83.56%ile in jee mains, Home state Maharashtra, OBC NCL male category, what choices(college and branch)I choose in JOSAA counseling to get admission in NIT/IIIT in any branch
Hello there,
With
83.56 percentile
in JEE Mains, your
rank may be around 150,000
. As an
OBC-NCL candidate from Maharashtra
, your chances of getting a seat in
NITs/IIITs
through
JoSAA counseling
will primarily depend on the branch and the specific institute.
Best Strategy for NIT/IIIT Admission:
-
Lower Branches in NITs:
-
You can target
NITs with less competitive branches
such as:
- Civil Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Production Engineering
- Biotechnology
-
Mining Engineering
-
You can target
NITs with less competitive branches
such as:
-
Some NITs with higher cutoffs for popular branches like CSE or ECE may still offer these less competitive branches to higher-ranked students.
-
Newer or Less Popular NITs:
-
Newer NITs
like
NIT Sikkim, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Nagaland, NIT Mizoram
may have higher cutoffs, increasing your chances of admission.
-
NIT Goa
and
NIT Srinagar
may also have more relaxed cutoffs in lower-demand branches.
-
Newer NITs
like
NIT Sikkim, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Nagaland, NIT Mizoram
may have higher cutoffs, increasing your chances of admission.
-
IIITs (Newer/Lower Demand):
-
New IIITs
(like IIIT Ranchi, IIIT Bhagalpur, IIIT Kalyani) may offer seats in branches like
Electronics, Mechanical, or Information Technology
.
-
New IIITs
(like IIIT Ranchi, IIIT Bhagalpur, IIIT Kalyani) may offer seats in branches like
Electronics, Mechanical, or Information Technology
.
-
Flexible Branches:
- Be open to core branches like Mechanical, Civil, Electrical , or Chemical Engineering in less competitive NITs/IIITs. Once in, you can try for a branch upgrade based on performance in the first year.
You may have a good chance of securing a seat in
lower-demand branches
at
newer NITs
or
IIITs
. Fill your choices broadly, targeting branches like
Civil, Mechanical, Metallurgical
, or
Biotechnology
across newer institutes. Ensure to participate in
multiple counseling rounds
for the best outcome.

63768 obc rank in jee mains can i get any iiit or nit college
Hello there,
With an OBC rank of 63,768 in JEE Main, it’s challenging to secure a seat in top NITs or IIITs, as their cutoffs are generally higher. However, you might have a chance in some lesser-known or newer IIITs and certain branches in GFTIs. Here are some possibilities:
1. Newer or Lesser-Known IIITs:
- IIIT Kalyani
- IIIT Una
- IIIT Kota
-
IIIT Manipur
2. Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs):
-
Some GFTIs
might have seats available in branches like Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or less sought-after branches.
3. Private Engineering Colleges:
-
Many private engineering institutions
accept JEE Main scores and might offer admission. Examples include:
- Shiv Nadar University
- Amity University
- Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT)
- VIT University
-
SRM Institute of Science and Technology

I got 59 percentile and i belongs to ST category. is it I have any chance to get a seat in iiits, gfits and etc
Hello Aspirant
There is no minimum Percentage required for JEE mains registration and appearing for the exam. However, for applying to IITs, NITs, and IIITs, you need a minimum percentage of 75% for the general category and 65% for the SC/ST categories. Since you have 59%, you are not eligible to get into IIITs.
However, GFITs do not have such criteria for admission, they do not consider 12th Board percentages so you can consider applying to them because they only look into your JEE score.
Hope this helps
