if I only cover my 11 and 12 syllabus for iit jam physics how much can I score?
Dear Nilesh,
Hope you are doing great,
It is determined by your knowledge and concepts on various chapters. If one covers the entire syllabus, he cannot guarantee a seat in IIT. If you did not study anything specifically for Jam 2018 and only took the mock test for JAM as previous year question then you may score average. However, you can easily cover mark scoring and other relatively simple topics. Thermal physics and mathematics, in my opinion, are relatively simple and take less time to cover than electronics, nuclear physics, and electrodynamics.
The following is the tips for the exam preparation:

how to prepare for thermodynamics for iit jam physics which book will be sufficient?
Hello,
Hope you are doing good!
IIT JAM is a national level exam that is conducted to shortlist students for admission to MSc and integrated MSc courses offered by colleges accepting IIT JAM scores for admission. IIT JAM is jointly conducted by the IITs and Indian Institute of Science (IISC). The IIT JAM Exam serves as a benchmark for the post-graduate level science education in the country. the main objective of the exam is to provide the best opportunities for students to develop academic talent leading to a challenging and rewarding professional life in them.
There are some best books to prepare:
- Statistical Physics - Reif
- Heat & Thermodynamics - H.P. Roy & A.B. Gupta
- Thermal Physics - Garg, Bansal & Ghosh
- Thermodynamics Kinetic Theory and Statistical Thermodynamics - FW Sears, G.L. Salinger
- Thermal Physics: Heat & Thermodynamics - HP Roy & AB Gupta
- Fundamentals of Statistical Mechanics & Thermal Physics - F Reif
Steps to prepare:-
- Refer Past Years' Question Papers.
- Solve at least 10-20 Physics questions daily.
- Know the Exam Pattern for IIT JAM.
- Try to Solve all solved and unsolved numerical. Be thorough with numerical and formulae. In thermodynamics, it is necessary to understand the dedication of formulae.
- Strengthen your mathematical skills - Physics questions require a great understanding of Mathematics and its terms.
- Video lectures & visual study techniques are great tools promoting conceptual learning.
- You must also practice the JAM Physics mock test, previous year question papers and sample papers to level up the preparation.

for iit jam( physics) is maths compulsory in 12
The IIT JAM eligibility criteria for MSc physics is that the candidate must have studied Physics for atleast two years or two semesters and Mathematics for atleast one year or two semesters in their bachelor's degree, there is not any restriction of maths at 10+2 level, the common eligibility requirement for General category and OBC is that the candidate must have scored a minimum of 55% aggregate in the last qualifying degree or must have secured 5.5 CGPA out of 10 CGPA in the last qualifying degree.

I am in bsc mathematics 1st year, I need to prepare for IIT JAM physics when should i start preparation and How should i do my preperation .
Hello,
You can prepare for IIT JAM from first year itself in gradual yet consistent manner, however you have to sustain the dedication which can become quite challenging for a lot of students, you can do certain things like getting acquainted with the exam pattern, marking scheme, important topics, syllabus etc, keep a print out of syllabus with yourself, that comes handy during preparation process, the entrance test is conducted for three hours having three sections, there will be a total of 60 questions for 100 marks, visit our page at https://university.careers360.com/articles/jam-exam-pattern to know more details regarding this, you can get acquainted with the syllabus at https://university.careers360.com/articles/jam-syllabus, you have to make a timetable once you get into serious mode based on daily, weekly and monthly schedule, choose appropriate study materials, and keep the options limited, since practice is key towards excellence especially in case of maths, hence this is something which you cannot skip at any point, and make notes pertaining to formulas, tips and tricks etc, this will help you a lot during revision, go through previous year papers at https://university.careers360.com/articles/jam-sample-papers, this will make you acquaint with exam pattern, marking scheme, important topics, weightage etc, and through consistent practice you can analyze your level of preparation and thereby improve your speed, and calculation.
as I am preparing for IIT jam physics on which topic I have to make my command from 12th grade mathmatics?
Hi nilesh,
The syllabus of IIT Joint admission test(JAM) for Physics which I got from the official website consists of 7 topics. One of the topic is mathematical methods. JAM 2022 will be conducted by IIT Roorkee and it is said they have done some changes in the syllabus so check it out. Now the syllabus of 12th grade maths differs for each board. I am going to take reference from NCERT 12th maths textbook which is highly recommended for competitive exams and I would personally suggest it too. Now after comparing both syllabus of IIT Jam Physics and NCERT maths book, the topics which needs the most attention is Algebra i.e matrices and determinants, Calculus i.e integrals, derivatives and differential equations and Vectors excluding the 3 dimensional geometry. Starting from 12th board seems a good strategy and I hope your hard work pays off. I hope you got the answer you were looking for if not please l et me know.
All the very best.
