Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi is an UGC approved NAAC grade A Accredited college with AIU membership. They offer MA in mass communication as a two years long full time post graduate degree course. The total fee for this course is approximately INR 5,000. To be eligible for applying for MA mass communication at BHU you must posses a minimum of 50%marks in aggregate for your graduation in any stream from a recognized University. The major difference between the two is that Masters in Mass Communication focuses on teaching the theory and reasoning behind the subjects and Masters in Journalism and Mass Media is more bent towards practical knowledge of spreading a message in a mass. Mass Media is a part of Mass Communication.

Though the end result and career options of both of them might be the same. You can pursue any of them based on what interests you more theory or practical.

A degree in mass communication is not offered by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU, Delhi).The list of PG courses offered at JNU is available in the following link

You can apply to IIMC, which is located near the JNU campus. If you wish to be a part of IIMC, you must apply separately. You can't get into IIMC by taking the JNUEE ( Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Exam).

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication Entrance Examination, commonly known as the IIMC Entrance Exam, is a written exam that consists of multiple-choice questions and descriptive type questions and is used to provide admission to PG Diploma and Certificate level programmes at various campuses. The IIMC is a self-contained institute within the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting that provides journalism courses in a variety of subjects.

However, if you choose Sociology as your major, you can pursue an MPhil or PhD in Mass Communication.

see as per ugc norms one candidate may study one of the regular course and one distance education course simultaneously. however to admission in m.a in mass communication the eligibility criteria is candidates must complete bachelors degree in mass communication or relevant stream from a recognized education board. so there should not be obstacles for admission in post graduate. however go through the official brochure of the college before applying to any course.
