what are the best optional subjects in UPSC.
Dear student,
There is nothing like best optional subject in UPSC CSE. One optional can be best for one person but bad for another. You should choose your optional solely on the basis of your area of interest and nothing else. If you enjoy studying your optional, then thay will really fetch you good marks, no matter what is pass percentage of that subject in the past.
So, choose according to your interest. If you are not able to find your interest, shortlist 3 to 4 subjects in which you thing you can be comfortable and then read some ncerts and books related to the same and also don't forget to analyse PYQ of the same and then you'll get to know which subject you enjoy reading and choose accordingly.
Thank you!

Hello,
As per AICTE new norms for admission to B.Tech a candidate must score minimum 45% in any three subjects from the following

Considering the eligibility criteria you are not eligible to apply for TS EAMCET 2022.
and what about class 11 arts ? which books are taught and details about compulsory and optional subjects
Hi there dear student!
The major subjects in Arts Stream in class 11th includes History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, and many more. The options you get depends on your board of study and educational institution, as in which subjects they offer.
There are four mandatory subjects and one optional. English is included in the compulsory subjects, and generally other three mandatory subjects are history, geography and political science.
The optional subject can include economics, psychology, fine arts or sometimes mathematics. Again, it depends on your board and education institution.
Hope this is clear.
Also if you have further doubts, you can revert with complete mention of the board and education institution.
Best wishes!
I am a non-medical student and wanted to appear for upsc cse . I decided to do bsc it or chemistry. In upsc as there are many optional subjects but it doesnt involve cs or it,so what do you prefer me to choose?
Hello,
There are certain important factors to be taken into consideration prior to deciding for the optional subject in UPSCA, first is obviously your interest in the subject, secondly it's important to go through the syllabus, how long will it take to complete, availability of study materials too matter in this, for instance last year an engineering graduate who was topper from IIT chose to go with physics as optional subject, so you can go ahead with chemistry as you mentioned, else if you like maths, you can have it as optional too, and it's quite a good scoring subject as well, see what happens if you choose a subject as optional that you're already well acquainted with then you don't have to start afresh and put in more efforts, that's why majority of people chose to go with their graduation subject because the syllabus of optional subjects in UPSC is equivalent to that of graduation level only, however there are certain candidate who take a different route like they come from engineering background but have taken up philosophy, public administration to name a few as optional, so it basically depends on your interest, go through the syllabus, previous year papers to get an idea, and as I said availability of study materials is too important criteria.
Can i write the GS papers and the essay (paper 1-5) in English while having my optional subject as Hindi Literature?
Hello Ekta,
I would like to tell you that, Yes! Now UPSC provides options to write GS and Optional papers in different mediums (Since 2018). If you choose to write GS and Essay papers in Hindi and Optional Paper in English you can do so.
But point to be noted here is, If you choose to write GS and Essay papers in English then you have to write Optional papers also in English. It means, given the technical/subject specific terminology in optional, you are given opportunity to write it in English while writing GS papers in your fluent or compatible language.
You will get these option while filling the application form for prelim. UPSC ask optional subject and medium both for GS & Essay papers and Optional subject separately in the preliminary stage itself. So, you get sufficient time to get yourself ready and mater in the chosen language.
Further, If you write your GS papers in English medium and want to choose Hindi for interviews that option is also available. But that is not vice versa, that is if your medium for mains is Hindi/regional languages, you can not opt English for Interview.
So, Go ahead without any hesitation or concern if you are more comfortable for Optional to write in English and confident for GS and Essay papers to write in Hindi or any other regional languages (VIII Schedule languages).
Hope this helps,
All the best!
