Describe various modes of vibration of air column in a closed pipe. Show that a closed pipe can produce only odd harmonics
Dear Student,
First Part:
- The air at the closed end is not free to vibrate so a node is fromed at the closed end.
- While the air at the open end is free to vibrate with maximum amplitude so an antinodes is formed at this end.
- This is the simplest mode of vibration and it is called fundamental mode.
Second Part:
This frequency is called the fifth harmonic or second overtone. Thus we see that frequencies of the modes of vibrations are in the ratio n:n1:n2: = 1:3:5 This shows that only odd harmonics are present in the modes of vibrations of the air column closed at one end.
Thank You.
36. What is Doppler effect of sound?. Obtain the general expression for the apparent frequency of sound. (b). Railway engine blowing a whistle of frequency 636 Hz approaches a person standing on a railway platform with a velocity 108 km/hr.Calculate the apparent frequency of the whistle as heard b
Hello Dear,
The change in the pitch when there is a relative motion between source and observer is called Doppler's effect. Let a source at rest be emitting the waves of frequency f and wavelength λ. Let V be the velocity of wave emitted by source V=fλ. Let the distance between source and observer be V. Please elaborate your question and feel free to ask your doubts here for quick resolution of your query.

Two masses 6kg and 2kg are at(6,-7)and (2,10) respectively. What is the centre of mass of the system of these two masses.
Dear aspirant,
For finding the center of mass for two mass system we need to know the formulas which is( mass1*coordinate of x1) +(mass2*coordinate of X2)/ (mass1+mass2) and for y coordinate apply the same process which has been applied for finding x coordinate.
17. Assertion (A): Value of acceleration due to gravity is minimum on the surface of Earth. Reason (R): The value of acceleration due to gravity decreases with both altitude and depth.
(B) Both A and R are true but R is not correct explanation of A
Acceleration decreases according to formula g′=g(1−R2h), where h is either height or depth and R is radius of earth. So, Acceleration due to gravity decreases as height or depth increases.
16. Assertion (A): Sound waves cannot propagate through vacuum but light waves can. Reason (R): Sound waves are transverse and light waves are longitudinal waves.
(A) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
Sound waves are longitudinal in nature and light waves are transverse in character. Moreover light wave is electromagnetic in nature. That's why light waves do not need a material medium for its propagation. Moreover sound wave requires material medium for it's propagation.
What is the principle of working of rocket?
Hello,
The rocket works because of the law of conservation of linear momentum. The law of conservation of linear momentum is very important in physics. Momentum is defined as the mass of an object times its velocity. Newtons third law of motion works on the rocket. It states that, 'to every action, there is always an equal and opposite reaction'. In the case of a rocket, the engine emits hot burning gases in the downward direction. These gases apply an equal and opposite reaction force to the rocket in the upward direction. This is how a rocket is propelled.
Handle to open the door is always provided at the free edge of a door. Why? 12. If two particles of masses M1 and M2 move with velocities V1 and V2 towards each other on a smooth horizontal table, what is the velocity of the centre of mass? 13. What is normal reaction?.
Hello candidate,
1. The handle open the door is always provided at the age of a dog because if it is provided at the lock them then it would not be able to generate enough call in order to provide a rotational motion to the door in order to open it.
2. If two masses on moving with velocities V1 and V2, then the velocity of centre of mass is equal to m1V1 + m2V2/ (m2+M1).
3. Normal reaction refers to a equal and opposite for switch the body produces upon which the forces acting upon.

A particle executes SHM of amplitude A. At what positions of its displacement (X) will its,(1) velocity be zero and maximum and (2) acceleration be zero and maximum?. 8.Why does Mercury collect itself into drops when placed on a clean glass plate?
Hello Candidate,
In the first question, a particle Executes SHM of amplitude A. It's Velocity will be maximum at the point of maximum displacement which is equal to +-A, velocity will be zero at the equilibrium point. The acceleration of the particle will be maximum at the equilibrium point will be zero at maximum displacement.
The mercury collects itself upon falling on a surface because of its high contact angle which is approximately equal to 135 degrees.
Hope This information helps you!!
3. The work done by a force is given by the area of __ 4.The escape velocity for a body projected vertically upwards from the surface of the Earth is 11 km/s.If the body is projected at an angle 45 degree with the vertical the escape velocity will be.
Hi,
11km/s.
Escape speed of a body from Earth's surface is given by: vmin = 2gR. This expression is obtained by conservation of energy and doesn't involve in which direction the body is thrown/projected. So, irrespective of the angle of projection, escape speed of the body from Earth's surface remains constant i.e. ≈11 km/s
The maximum speed of a car on a level circular road of radius of curvature R, without skidding will be a. Independent of coefficient of friction b. Independent of mass c. Independent of R d.independent of g 2. A force F=(5i+3j+2 k)N is applied over a particle with the displacement r=(2i j) m.
Hello candidate,
The maximum speed of a car on a level circular road of radius of curvature r, so that it can move without skidding is equal to v= √R* g* cos theta, where theta is angle of elevation. So, the maximum speed is independent of the mass of car.
In the second part of the question, force is divided in three components and the displacement is divided into two components, but no question has been mentioned this needs to be solved.
Hope it helps!!
