I have secured 20 th rank in Msc plant biotechnology BHU PET 2021 .... is it a good choice to opt MSc biotechnology over Msc genetics and plant breeding from BHU
Hello Supriya,
Congratulations on getting such a good rank.
Having said that, I would say you should check with yourself with what are you more interested in.
I would advise you to opt for MSc Plant biotechnology, because this wouldn't narrow down your field and you will surely have genetics and plant breeding in the course as a part of it.
Though if you choose MSc genetics and plant breeding, you'll surely miss some of the important topics in plant biotechnology. Also this would narrow down your field.
With narrow down your field i mean just in case you want to pursue your PhD in some of the topic relevant to Plant biotechnology, you might miss out on those just because you pursued MSC in genetics and plant breeding.
Otherwise both the courses have equal scope
Hope that helps you
All the best
my rank in general is 448 and in obc its 160 and 93 in obc female and 298 in open female general rank and get 141 marks in BHU plant biotechnology PG entrance 2021, is there any chance for me to get admission in BHU?
Hello aspirant ,
With your above secured rank in obc female category , you might get a seat in BHU for plant Biotechnology PG entrance 2021 . Since the cutoff marks keep on changing every year and it depends on various factors , so it's difficult for me to predict precisely about your admission in BHU .
However , the previous year average cutoff for biotechnology students in BHU PET was around 60-100 for obc category , and so you might get a seat with 93 with obc female category rank .
For more information about the cutoff trenda , you can check this article below :

I hope that this will help.

getting 271 marks rank 66 msc plant biotechnology can i get a seat in BHU...???
Hello aspirant ,
But since you have not mrntioned your category rank , i'm considering you as general category.
For Msc in plant biotech , you need to score aroung 100-200 marks out of 360 for general category stuent. And your marks is exceptionally well ,i.e, 271. Also if you belong to some other category the cutoff marks are bit less that below.
So you can definitely get a seat in BHU in plant biotech.

Plant biotechnology vs Animal biotechnology which is better in future ?
First we should keep in mind that the basic techniques of biotechnology is same for both medical biotechnology and plant biotechnology but in specialisation you get to learn some special techniques applicable for medical and plant background respectively. For example-
for medical biotechnology you will get strong hold on techniques like different kind of ELISA, kind of microscopy, flow cytometry, protein isolation and quantification, etc.
For plant biotechnology you will learn tissue culture, particle bombardment, etc.
Now coming to your question which have more scope, in my opinion plant biotechnology have equal scope in India and abroad but medical biotechnology have low scope in India but optimum in foreign countries like USA. This is keeping in mind you want to join industry. But if you want to continue in research both are equally good. You can even combine knowledge of both as done in production of various animal protein .
