10th 80% 12th 64% Engg 6.5 CGPA & I am in Final year now. What are my chances to get a call from SJMSOM and at what pecentile in CAT?
Hi Saurabh,
You have decent chances of getting a call from Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay. However, try to improve your final year CGPA as minimum eligibility criteria to get a call is 60% or 6.5 CGPA minimum. Moreover, your CAT percentile needs to be at least 98 percentile and above to expect a call from SJMSOM. Though they give 80% weightage to CAT percentile in selection process, they also give 5% weightage to class 12th percentage and 5% to graduation score. Remaining is for diversity and work experience which you don't have currently. So, try improving your graduation CGPA and get a really good CAT percentile to expect a call from SJMSOM.
Good Luck.
How its part of IIT, as Shailesh J Mehta is a business management school and IIT is technology institute
Dear Siva,
Hope you are doing well. Let me give you a detail answer for your question.
A student looks for following Parameters during choosing any institute especially a management institute.
1. Placements 2. Faculty to students Ratio 3. Intellectual capital 4. Industry Exposure 5. Location 6. College Fees 7. Batch Size 8. College Infrastructure, Sports facilities and Clubs. 9. Business Incubator
According to me SJMSOM has done pretty well in all the above parameters. Let me give you more in detail about each parameter.
1. Placements - Look at the official report from SOM website and the companies, average package-20.8 lakhs per annum ( 20.3+ more than 50% of the batch) and coveted profiles offered across domains will speak highly of themselves.
2. Faculty to student ratio - There are 23 "Core Faculties" for about 110 students which work out to a faculty: student ratio of about 1:5. If one includes the visiting faculty, the ratio will be even better.
3. Intellectual Capital - Cut off for admissions is very high and even 99+ may not suffice. This year the student with the lowest cut off who was called for the interview was having 98.36 percentile in CAT.
4. Industry exposure - Sessions like 'Continuum' and 'Diksha' where industry stalwarts come on weekends and talk about a certain topic with students are quite informative and helpful.
5. Location - Being in Mumbai provides you with more exposure than other cities (exception Delhi or Bangalore). Many college Alumni are just at a call distance and are ready to come, help and guide you whenever needed.
6. College Fees - Lowest after FMS in top B school. For the batch (2017-19) the fee is around 9 lakhs. Better ROI and lesser worry of education loan may not be the highest criteria but are one of the important ones to consider.
7.Batch size - The environment of any B school is very competitive and with just 110 students in the batch, a close knit family is not forced upon but done as a choice.
8. College Infrastructure- That's where being in IIT B helps immensely. IIT B has the best infrastructure amongst any college in our country. IIT Bombay is a small township in itself. Rich in natural flora and fauna to begin with, the campus' green cover has been maintained and even increased over the years. World class swimming pools, exceptional sports facilities, Incubators for start-ups, hostel facilities, hospital, post office, banks, central library, theatrical clubs, linguistic clubs, photography clubs, mountaineering clubs, any club you name it and we have it.
9. Business Incubator - Many students aspire to be an entrepreneur after Management degree and if you can find space with all the resources to implement the same with minimum expenditure then it could be of immense help. SINE, Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, is an umbrella for the promotion of entrepreneurship at IIT Bombay. SINE administers a business incubator that provides support for technology – based entrepreneurship.

The institite offers Mangement Development (MDP), Executive MBA and Ph. D.
Exam: Final selection is done on the basis of CAT score, personal interview, and written verbal ability (WAT)
Cat score96 10th 94 12th 72 Get adm 73 aggregate.
Hii Rekha..SJMSOM calls are profiled bases so someone with good profile might get it at 92 and someone with no so good profile might not even get at 99+. So according to me you have a good chance of getting it. Try your luck most probably you will get. Hope this helps you.
Does the college offer a Management in Information Technology?
Just for clarification, any premium B-School known for offering a general degree in management will offer only MBA and not any specialized degree. Information Technology is just a part (though increasingly important) of any business run in India and abroad and the inception of MBA program was to run the entire business in the best managerial way and not just one aspect of that business which is information technology.
IT plays a very crucial role and many companies do offer roles in IT after MBA but that doesn't at all mean that the MBA specialisation start happening in that field.
Definitely you also get to opt for electives for IT which will teach you management of IT, which however should never be pursued solely if you want to be an efficient manager.
Such managers should be skilled in everything.
This answer is in addition to what has already been answered to you.
All the best!!
What is the fee structure and finance availability and cut of ranks in cat or gmat?
Hello Ranjith,
SJ Mehta college doesn't provide the MBA in Finance course.
It has Masters of management studies, executive MBA and PH.D courses.
The cut off for these is nearly 98-99 percentile in CAT.
Hope this helps.
