The University of Madras (UOM), Chennai was established in 1857 by an Act of the Legislative Council of India. It is a state university that is co-ed in nature. The total student enrollment in the university is more than forty-one thousand and the total number of faculty is more than 250 in number. Madras University has been approved by the UGC and has received ‘A’ grade from NAAC. As per the NIRF ranking for the year 2021, the varsity has been ranked 28th in the university category whereas it was ranked 22nd in the NIRF ranking 2020 for the university category.
