The Common Aptitude Test(CAT) is a management aptitude test administered by the IIMS with the aim of assessing and shortlisting candidates for postgraduate programme. It's a computer based test, and candidates must complete the registration procedure in order to participate in this exam which is conducted once every year. CAT scores are taken into account across the country, but solely for MBA admissions. Whereas, TANCET(Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) Is conducted for admission to MBA,M.E.,M.C.A/ M.Tech/M.Plan/M.Arxh degree programs provided in Tamil Nadu Colleges. Because CAT is conducted at an all India level, it is more tough than TANCET as it has intense competition.

Yes, you can register for TANCET Counselling provided you must have passed B.Tech/B.E. from a recognized institute in the relevant field. Or must have passed  10+2+AMIE or 10+3 years diploma (awarded by the State Board of Technical Education) + AMIE. Candidates belonging to general category must score minimum 50% aggregate marks and reserved category candidates must score minimum 45% aggregate marks.
