Well it depends on how the state counselling goes as well as the all India counselling.

Like if you are the decendent of the same state then it might be possible to get the seat at the very first counselling or else after few rounds it will be allocated. 

But as per the previous JOSAA list, chances are quite high.

It is quite difficult to predict the closing rank because it varies every year depending on what the interests and preferences of the students are.

We can to some extent go by the previous year trends to get an idea.

The closing rank for homestate for general category is around 1 L.

This rank has gone up to 7.9 L in special rounds .

For higher education, Material sciences or Polymer Chemistry is probably the best fit after textile, University of Akron regularly sponsors candidates from IIT-Delhi. Pursuing higher education in an unrelated area is a challenge but most of the people have been able to follow their interests after working as a research assistant for some time.

For placements, most of the companies don't have any branch specific criterion (they only look at the CGPA and extra-curriculars). Following is list of some of such companies:

1) Consultancies: Mck, BCG, Bain, KPMG, Delloitte, PwC etc. (except EY)
2) Analytics: Fractal Analytics etc.
3) Banks: DB, Credit Suisse, Capital One etc.
4) Start-ups: Flipkart, Rocket Internet group of start-ups etc.

Most of the core-companies like HUL, ITC, P&G, BP, TI etc. don't hire textile graduates.

It is not easy to get placed in Day-1 companies like Mck, BCG, Bain, DB etc, most of the people get placed between Day 2 to Day 15. Almost everybody in my batch got placed through campus (some of them had to face difficulties owing to their low CG).

Most of the core jobs in textile companies like Trident, Arvind Mills etc. are located in remote locations in India. Typically a plant is divided into 5 departments, Procurement, Production, Processing, Finishing and Quality Control & Testing. Core-jobs are operationally heavy, require good subject knowledge of textile and would involve managing one of these departments.

With reference to your above mentioned query, I would like to tell you that on comparison to piet college , Jawahar lal Nehru government engineering college (jngec) is far better than pigec in terms of placements, infrastructure , academics and facilities.

The JNGEC College has excellent faculty and labs. But lack in hostel and ground since college is still under construction. In study wise it is very good with excellent library.

Talking about placements in JNGEC- this college offers good number of placements offers. The placement of electronics and textile department is excellent in college. Each year many students get placed in various companies with good package. Now the companies civil and mechanical engineering is also coming in the college. Students get package upto 25 lakhs.

MANIPAL UNIVERSITY, SIKKIM don't offer any Diploma or Distance education program in the textile engineering division. Infact in the engineering division, it offers BTech/MTech in total 19 courses among which Textile engineering isn't present for full time as well. See if you wish to take admission through the lateral entry, then the trade of your Diploma doesn't matters. So if you are from Textile Engineering trade then obviously you can go for the course of BTech in Electrical Engineering. You should keep in mind, that you need to have good score in your Diploma or the lateral entry examination in order to get Electrical Engineering as Electrical Engineering is a trade which is preferred by a lot of students. So the competition is high in this field. So do try to score as much as possible in order to get a seat in Electrical Engineering.
