10pyq for thermodynamics in Jee
Hello Aspirant
You can access Previous Year's Question papers via the Internet or via Guidebooks. Guidebooks like Pearson's, Gupta's, etc. are the good ones.
Here are some links for the websites that have the PYQs- https://questions.examside.com/past-years/jee/jee-main/physics/heat-and-thermodynamics

Question : The first law of thermodynamics is simply the case of:
Option 1: Charle's law
Option 2: Newton's law
Option 3: The law of heat exchange
Option 4: The law of conservation of energy
Correct Answer: The law of conservation of energy
Solution : The correct option is The law of conservation of energy.
The law of conservation of energy is used in the first law of thermodynamics. According to it, energy can only alter its form and cannot be created or destroyed in a closed system. According to thermodynamics, this implies that energy can be exchanged between different forms (such as heat, work, or potential energy) but the overall amount of energy within a closed system remains constant.
Question : The first law of thermodynamics is related to the conservation of which one of the following?
Option 1: Energy
Option 2: Number of molecules
Option 3: Number of moles
Option 4: Temperature
Correct Answer: Energy
Solution : The correct option is Energy.
Energy cannot be created or destroyed in an isolated system, according to the first law of thermodynamics, also referred to as the law of conservation of energy. It can only change forms or be transferred between different parts of the system and its surroundings. Mathematically, the first law of thermodynamics can be expressed as ΔU = Q − W.
jo bhi chemistry mein chapters hain jaise environmental chemistry ,thermodynamics, equilibrium ,polymers, p block elements ,d block elements, coordination compounds, classification of elements ,surface chemistry ,and s block element agar main sab chapters ko acche se karron toh kitne marks banenge
Hi kashish,
I think you are asking about board exams of class 12th.
Otherwise if you are asking for any entrance exam then I would suggest you to study all the chapters as nobody knows what will came in the examination. So better prepare all chapters for better understanding.
See, all the chapters are important and the ones who have mentioned are of class 11th and class 12th. So equilibrium, thermodynamics are one of the important chapters that will help you in getting good marks as major portion comes from this .
Solve a good number of questions of these chapters and then go fir the examination.
See, selected chapters will not help you to score good marks so you should prepare the whole course.
Hope you understand.
Thank you and very good luck:))
sir, in important topics of VITEEE 2022(physics) why have you mentioned thermodynamics its not in our syllabus sir

how to prepare for thermodynamics for iit jam physics which book will be sufficient?
Hello,
Hope you are doing good!
IIT JAM is a national level exam that is conducted to shortlist students for admission to MSc and integrated MSc courses offered by colleges accepting IIT JAM scores for admission. IIT JAM is jointly conducted by the IITs and Indian Institute of Science (IISC). The IIT JAM Exam serves as a benchmark for the post-graduate level science education in the country. the main objective of the exam is to provide the best opportunities for students to develop academic talent leading to a challenging and rewarding professional life in them.
There are some best books to prepare:
- Statistical Physics - Reif
- Heat & Thermodynamics - H.P. Roy & A.B. Gupta
- Thermal Physics - Garg, Bansal & Ghosh
- Thermodynamics Kinetic Theory and Statistical Thermodynamics - FW Sears, G.L. Salinger
- Thermal Physics: Heat & Thermodynamics - HP Roy & AB Gupta
- Fundamentals of Statistical Mechanics & Thermal Physics - F Reif
Steps to prepare:-
- Refer Past Years' Question Papers.
- Solve at least 10-20 Physics questions daily.
- Know the Exam Pattern for IIT JAM.
- Try to Solve all solved and unsolved numerical. Be thorough with numerical and formulae. In thermodynamics, it is necessary to understand the dedication of formulae.
- Strengthen your mathematical skills - Physics questions require a great understanding of Mathematics and its terms.
- Video lectures & visual study techniques are great tools promoting conceptual learning.
- You must also practice the JAM Physics mock test, previous year question papers and sample papers to level up the preparation.

All the best!
Hope it will help!
Thank you!
I am in class 11 preparing for JEE 2023. What are the prerequisites for studying fluids, heat and thermodynamics, waves and sound, elasticity and SHM in Physics?
hello aspirant,
I hope that you are doing are doing absolutely great.
With reference to your above mentioned query, I would like to tell you that you are learning these chapters - Heat, Waves, thermodynamics and Sounds in a very new way, so don't care about some prerequisites in those chapters. There are no prerequisites in these chapters. I know that these chapters are very new and have some unfamiliar concepts for you and also very important for JEE mains examination as well, so first try to go and understand with the basics with these chapters. Because basics are important first.
The suggestions I would like to give you is that solve as many questions as you want in these chapters so that you will hold the grasp on these Important chapters and if you get stuck at somewhere, ask for doubts from your teachers and fellow classmates. This will clear your basics on these and this will be like the prerequisites for you in class 12th because these same chapters will be there in your class 12th also but in a detailed and conceptual way.
Further, if you are a JEE aspirant, then i would like to share some preparation strategy and tips followed by toppers and experts so that it might help you :
-
Give equal weightage to all topics
-
Distribute the time needed to study it. Give more time to difficult topics and less to the ones you just need to revise.
-
Ensure you have scheduled revision time in the plan
Action Plan to Prepare for JEE Main 2022
-
Study a chapter and understand the concepts. NCERT books are good for this.
-
While studying, make sure to note important points and formulas. This short notes will be useful during revision.
-
After studying a chapter or topic, check how much you can recollect and to what extent you have understood the topic.
-
Then practice questions based on the topic studied. While practising do not go for the solution directly. Try to solve yourself, make mistakes and then correct it. This step will help you to know how to crack JEE Main .
-
Make sure to give a JEE Main mock test after completing the subject. Similarly ensure that you appear for as many mock tests as you can so that you can analyse your preparation levels, understand where you are making the mistakes
-
Use the analysis to know your weak areas and concentrate on improving while revising.
-
Be wise and Revise - Without revision, it is difficult to crack any exam especially one like JEE Main. You can only improve if you revise.
-
Clear all your concepts, doubts. Never leave a question unanswered in your mind.
-
Put the brake and take a break
