Yes , I think if it is an option then you should select it. It is a good college with very helpful faculties and good studying environment. Moreover, it is better than any other branches of CIPET. Although the placements are quite average. But as I have heard it really prepares you well if you are planning for higher studies. The average salary is around 20-25K  but that is just a starting salary and many have seen increase in there salary later on.

Though the placements in UIET are not great but you can pursue post graduation from top institutions like IISC, IITs via gate and get a chance to work with Tata Steel, jindal stainless, vedanta, GE aviation etc which are top recruiters in this field. Also via Gate you can get an entry in to reputed PSUs like IOCL, SAIL, DRDO, BARC, BIS, NALCO etc. Also Tata Steel annually organizes its Assistant Engineer Trainee Exam, for recruiting the people asAssistant Managers/Assistant Engineers. Arcelor Mittal-Nippon Steel India and Tata Metaliks often conduct regular Off campus drives for Metallurgical Engineers.

According to the previous year's data of closing ranks in various branches in the University Institute of Engineering and Technology CSJMU, Kanpur ; it is predicted that you have good chances to get seat for B.Tech Metallurgical and Materials engineering with your rank. The last year's closing rank for this branch was 82,909 for the open category . So, you can most probably secure a seat by the second counseling round in the worst case.

In the second year, change of branch may be allowed to a limited number of students
on the basis of their academic performance in the first year subject to the departmental
strength constraints. No department shall exceed the maximum sanctioned strength or
fall below 60% of the sanctioned strength in a particular branch of that year as a result
of branch changes. Branch change is a privilege and not a right and will be considered for meritorious students subject to the constraints mentioned above. Requests for change of branch should be made to the Chairperson, APEC, at the end of the secondsemester. The students seeking branch change must not have any backlog and musthave a CPI equal to or greater than 8.00 at the end of the first two semesters.

Of available seats in that branch . As most of the Student prefer college from jee rather than upsee college ( due to placement scenario) hence you may get your desired branch.

As per going with the previous years trends you have very good chances of getting IET Lucknow as per your OBC rank . You may have the following branches:-
