LBSNAA stands for Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration is situated in a beautiful hill station Mussoorie, Uttrakhand. LBSNAA is the premier training institution for civil services like IAS, PCS, IRS, etc. in India. It is directed by a Director who is an officer of Secretary level to the Government of India and is an attached officer in the Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India.
The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration runs a common foundation course for the candidates of All India Services, Indian Foreign Services and also for the Group 'A' Services of the Union and he Royal Bhutan Service as well. The course is followed by professional training for the regular recruits of the Indian Administrative Service and the members of Royal Bhutan Service. The academy also runs in-services and Mid Career Training Programmes for the candidates of Indian Administrative Service. It also conducts Induction Training Programmes for those candidates who are promoted from State Civil Services to the IAS.

The entrants undergo for a 2-year training process at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA).
The concept of LBSNAA was first put forward on the 15th of April 1958 when the Union Home Minister of that time Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant announced that a National Academy of Administration would be set up for the training of candidates of Civil Service Officers.
On behalf of the Home Affairs ministry, the IAS Training School of Delhi and the IAS Staff College of Shimla both were joined to form the National Academy of Administration in 1959.
On 1st September 1959, the National Academy of Administration was established at Metcalfe House where the first batch of the candidates was trained. However, the name of the National Academy of Administration has been changed twice.
In October 1972, the name changed to LalBahadur Shastri Academy of Administration.
In July 1973, the academy got its current name Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA).
The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration is located at Mussoorie, a hill station at the height of 6580 ft. and is spread across 189 acres. It provides various facilities like a gym, tennis court, running ground, horse riding, etc.
They have classes Starting from 9:00 AM in the morning. Each classroom session is 55 minutes and there were around 5 - 6 sessions in the whole day. From 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM various sports like running, wrestling, weight lifting ,etc and horse riding activities are held.
If there are any types of social and cultural programmes, they are also planned before the dinner time is at 8:00 PM.
A regular day in the academy generally starts at 6:00 AM with an exercise session at the Polo Ground for an hour or a 6-10 km jog. After this, trainees have an hour to get ready and have breakfast.
On holidays and weekends in IAS training, the candidates complete remaining curricular activities like social services and adventure sports such as hill climbing, paragliding, mountain trekking, river rafting,etc.
The song sung in National Academy of Administration is a Bengali Song which is composed by Shri. Atul Prasad Sen who has been a famous personality, a successful lawyer, a best singer, lyricist, writer and a laborious social worker.
The National academy acquired this song during the period of Rajeshwar Prasad (1973-1977).
There have been some modifications in this song with the time. For example,some of this song lines are translations to Hindi, Tamil, Marathi. The National academy song indicates the soul of the Civil Services and it is a permanent source of inspiration for all the officers.
There are many courses run in the National Academy over the whole year. Among these courses, the Foundation Course is the most important course. Some programmes like the professional programmes are basically skill-based and the In-Service Courses are mainly headed towards improvement of policy articulation capabilities for supposing senior positions in Government. The training at LBSNAA contains a number of programs focused at universal development of personality and technical upskilling of fresh candidates so that they can be able to counter the challenges of the service. The training schedule and courses at LBSNAA are given below :
Foundation Course :
Generally, the period of this course is from August to December. All the selected entrants of Grade A Central Services and the candidates of All India Services in the CSE get a call to join the foundation course. After this process, all the cadets of various services go to their
corresponding academies. As for example, The IFS candidates go to the Foreign Services Institute in New Delhi for further courses and the IPS candidates go to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) for their training etc. The candidates of IAS carry on their training at LBSNAA.
Bharat Darshan :
Bharat Darshan is a India tour course for the IAS trainees. This is a country tour of about 45-50 days in which trainees visit to important parts of the country. They visit different Public sector corporations, Armed services offices, Non governmental organizations, etc. There is an important part of the training that trainees must meet during this course.
Phase I Training :
Phase l training is generally held in Feb-May. Phase I consists of Core training of the IAS cadets.
District training :
In the month of May, the IAS officers get their corresponding postings in respective districts. They get appointed as Assistant Collectors and worked for about 11 months. This 11 months work is the first practical experience as an IAS officer of this cadet.
Phase Il Training :
After the district training, the IAS officer trainees again unite together at Mussoorie for training of 2 months more.
Assistant Secretary :
After the Phase 2 training , all the IAS officer trainees are posted in different Ministries in New Delhi at the post of Assistant Secretary. Along with learning, the IAS officer trainees get to experience the practical workings of the State Government and Central Government.
Confirmation :
After the completion of all types of training in the National academy. The President of India appoints the successful trainees as officers and gives them confirmation of service for serving the country.
Dr. Sanjeev Chopra is the current director of LBSNAA. He was appointed on 1 January, 2019 as the director.
Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy Of Administration (LBSNAA) has four main buildings named Karmashila, Dhruvshila, Gyanshila and Aadharshila.
The name of the academy song of LBSNAA is Hao Dharmete Dheer. This song is composed in Bengali language, after that some other language's words are added in it.
Not even a single rupee is required to join the LBSNAA. Only hard working guy, laborious and well behaved personality candidate who cleared the UPSC exam is admitted in LBSNAA. Even in training periods trainees get stipends also.
The working period of director A.N. Jha was from 1 September, 1959 to 30 September, 1962. He was the first working director of the LBSNAA.
