MLA is an abbreviation for "Member of the Legislative Assembly." MP is an abbreviation for "Member of Parliament."
A person elected by the citizens or voters of a symbolic electorate division for the legislature of the state government of India is known as a Member of the Legislative Assembly. For every member of parliament who represents the people in the Lok Sabha in India, there are between 4 to 9 MLAs. The degree of accountability required of elected MLAs depends on the post assigned to them. An MLA once selected, is appointed for a term of 5 years.
Within the state legislature and itself, the powers of the MLA are split. There are several powers that the legislature cannot regulate but that the parliament can. Certain powers are subject to both parliamentary and governmental supervision.
Legislation
This includes understanding the existing laws, discussing about new laws, arranging and examining the new/old laws at the state/UT assembly level. They also care about taking reviews of the existing laws.
Representation
An MLA represents the voice of the people. They should be able to communicate and provide support in different ways to the people of its assembly, raise their issues to government officials and find ways to solve the local public problems with the help of bureaucracy.
