Work of the SSR

The SSR is a part of an organisation that works on the ship including:-

  • Aircraft Carriers

  • Guided-missile destroyers

  • Frigates

  • Replenishment ships

  • Submarines

Their SSRs work on different responsibilities related to caring for the ships, operating machinery like radars and executing military missions. Some branches are:-

  • Seamen- This branch consists of other sub-branches. It consists of most of the maintenance and operational tasks involved with the navy, including maintaining equipment and ship parts, operating weapons and machinery and facilitating the transfer of men and materials.

  • Engineering- This branch keeps the ship's engine working, as well as keeps a check on pumps and the ship's optimum performance and the safety of the crew.

  • Communications- In this branch, you can also find many other sub-branches which involve monitoring and facilitating the communication between ships and command. Here mostly the work is confidential.

  • Electrical- In this, you can find two sub-branches which are power and radio. These branches work on controlling the power supply of the ship, while the radio works on visual communications.

  • Logistical- In this branch, you can find all the administrative support and provide logistics which handles all the paperwork and supplies on the ship.

  • Medical- This branch works on assisting medical officers on ships to provide medical care to their colleagues. They also work in hospitals, depending on their availability.

Difference between AA and SSR

Both Artificial Apprentices or SSRs are entry-level jobs in the Indian Navy. They both have some differences. SSR is a more technical position, with higher education requirements that result in higher salary expectations.

Eligibility

In, a navy requires an AA and an age must be 17 to 20 with higher education secondary level examination with 60% or more marks in maths and physics in one of the following subjects. But in SSR there is no percentage for their combined higher secondary level examination.

Training process

In AAs here the training is of nine weeks before pursuing professional training. The service allocates AAs to each branch or trade, which depends on the needs of the service. SSRs it's a training of 22 weeks of basic training, before professional training in an allocated naval training establishment.

Salary

Here SSRs take a professional course and they can earn a certificate after completing 15 years of service. The package of SSRs is Rs 30,000 per month with fixed yearly increments.

Pensions

Here are the payments which will be paid out after retirement for members of the navy who served their lives and do their jobs throughout their entire engagement terms. The SSR's pensions are available after 15 years of service.

It just depends on you where you want to work. As  SSR is less technical as compared to AA.  If you are technically strong and have good technical knowledge we would recommend you take the AA examination.

4. Is there an interview in the Navy SSR?
